Black for black sake. No. White for white sake. No. Purple for Purple sake. No. I don't care if they hire an over age, black, Jewish transvestite from China with an Hispanic surname. As long as that person can coach, recruit and have a proven record of success at the Div I level. But not sure who that would be...

From these comments, I am getting the feeling that racism has been an issue at SMU in the past? Would there be an effort to bring in an African American head coach? There are a lot of very qualified African American asst. coaches that do not get the opportunities in college football that they do in the pros.

I am 100% in favor of diversity and breaking cultural and racial stereotypes. I also believe that the best person for the job should be hired - regardless of those factors.

I guess you need a history lesson. Ever heard of Jerry Levias? There is no more racism at SMU than at any other major university probably less and that is especially true in the athletic department.

Wow...didn't know that Hayden Fry had coached here either.. Thanks for the name. I was not meaning any disrespect, I was just trying to "read between the lines" of the comments in the Dallas News and the subsequent comments on this board.

Glad to hear that it isn't an issue in the Athletic Department. I lived in Georgia for a while, and the culture (or should I say ignorance) in the SEC can be downright scary.

No! Like I said before, it has nothing to do with race. Our problem is this. We have people making decisions based on what they are comfortable with. We have search committee members who have been on the search committee for too long, since we hired Hayden (probably the reason we keep searching). Times have changed, when will we? We have to have committee members, faculty and football staff that feel comfortable with the inner city kid. Levias (spelling) was not from the inner city as we know it today, so leave Levias out of it. That was a different day and age. Only Stallion has memories of that. We have to upgrade across the board to be successful, or let Orsini have full control, which I think he has, but not telling the general public.

I was on the team the while Levias was there. May I please have memories of that, or are they confined to Stallion?

mrydel, I am sorry. My mother always told me to respect my elders, but damn you are old, and can still type with the arthiritis.

NewPony, something else to think about? When it comes to money who cares what color you are. Winning programs generate money for the institution. Bowl games generate money for the conference and athletic department. We have been losing for 20, so that allows every Tom, [deleted] and Harry to have a say into what is going on. Get my point? That is why I question the search committee. Some of them need to move on. They have not got it right for 20 years. Six years ago PB was our man?

Damn, you get them from the lowest level possible. That is probably the same [deleted] I have been using.

That would explain the fat fingers. Most NTSU girls have fat everything.

Big Daddy:

So, you are saying that it is the same search committee for many years? Orsini is relatively new. They have hired a search firm from what I read. Will they have a real say in it? Do you think this committee already has picked their guy? I posted a long comment in the "gary barnett website" thread - probably not the best place for it, but I'm new here!

Do the big money boosters control things here like they do in so many universities?
