SMU new coach better than A&M new coach?

Postby Insane_Pony_Posse » Thu Nov 08, 2007 9:36 pm

am i crazy?

but in my mind if SMU gets Gary Barnett and A&M gets Gary Kubiak i would think SMU got the better coach?

odd isn't it?....smaller school, less money, non-bcs conference, gets the better coach?

i know i would be happier to hear SMU hired Gary Barnett than to hear SMU hired Gary Kubiak.

Gary Barnett would be a better fit for SMU. Although Gary Kubiak doesn't have much of a collegiate coaching background I think he would be a good fit for Texas A&M considering Texas A&M will be able to sell itself more easily to high schoolers along with the fact that every high school football player knows who he is. Additionally he is a solid x's and o's coach. You can't ignore Pete Carol's success at USC in evaluating Kubiak.

I have been favorable towards Barnett since he was mentioned and admired him while he was at Northwestern. I would love him at SMU. I respect Kubiack as a coach from what I have seen but have no idea how he would do recruiting. It is much easier to recruit at A&M so I would think Barnett would be the better fix for us and Kubiack for them.

But from all I read, Tuberville is A&M's choice, and A&M his choice.

If Texas A&M hires Rich Rodriguez Terry Bowden will probably want the West Virginia job.

i find myself leaning towards Barnett more and more

i asked a few guys at work today what they thought of Gary Barnett and they all knew who he was, were positive, and immediately knew him as "the coach that did so well at Northwestern".

what a big step up he would be for SMU

Baylor does not have the death penalty. Players killed OK. If Baylor wanted a big team they would do what SMU has done or will do. Then Baylor may get into the game..... I don't want to feed a shark, but my feeling is this guy is not good news. He is not good news for SMU and the people that care about SMU.

What do you think of Paul Johnson?

Seems like he worked with nothing and similar restrictions as at SMU but he has been successful.

Could it be possible that Bennett shows up at A&M as DC?

I don't know about Tuberville going to A&M. I'm from about 40 minutes from Auburn, and AU seems pretty committed to keep Tubs as their head coach. Also, he has great support from the fan base there. I think it will be hard for A&M to tear him away from the plains. If an offer comes, I would expect to see a counter offer from the Tigers.
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
