baylor jobi know this is the pot calling the kettle black but how bad is the Baylor job? How many coaches have they recycled down there? That situation looks more difficult than ours because how do they ever get off the mat in the Big 12 South? I dont see how they can ever create any momentum. The Big 12 is their greatest strength and their biggest problem all at the same time. I think i would rather be TCU than Baylor, so the big 12 aint everything.
Did you do a poll of your sources on this as well?
An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
I can promise you the Baylor job is a more attractive thatn the SMU job. BCS. Simple as that. SMU could have never gotten Morriss to leave Kentucky.
...............How would you like to live and work in Waco ???
Obviously he does as you can tell he is FULL of enthusiasm for the outhouse environment!
How do you know he's been negative. I think he's been pretty straight forward in his opinion based apparently on his contacts that SMU's search is not progressing because there is not much interest in the job. He does not say that SMU sucks or that he wants us to lose-just reporting what he is hearing. He may be full of [deleted] but he he may really have some contacts. You also can discount him because he is merely making unsupportrd claims-but so are those of us commenting about how all the National Coaches of the Years would do at SMU. I can't really say I disagree with his opinions. I hope we get an experienced, proven head coach but I am skeptical. SMU has never gotten one of its top candidates for the football job in any of the previous job searches. It simply is not that great a job. Apparently, SMU has some big money to remedy those negatives.
Unfortunately you're probably right. BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
How do you know he's been negative..................? Apparently, SMU has some big money to remedy those negatives.
.................You answered your own question correctly....... When you look at the kind of money SMU has raised for new coaches right now, I think it is crazy for so many people to question that some ( at least one ) big name coach would not be interested in the pay checks, the challenge, and have the personal confidence he could pull this off. And may I add at worst, the new coach knows he gets some personal financial stability to try to pull it off..... If not, then why all this money talk.. ? makes no sense. I mean we could get alot of assitant coaches for less than 1/2 the amount Orsini has stated that is availiable.....Simply put if no one wants the money to take on the challenge, then the deal will not have been marketed properly and I KNOW Orsini is better than that... But I do think it is very important for all of us fans to stay positive right now for a variety of reasons.
This whole thing about the lack of interest is wasting our time. If biggin is going to throw out generalizations about this job but then say he has to be careful about what he's posting because of X,Y and Z, then the credibility of these posts are being called into question.
I just love how everybody on this board thinks they have an angle and some inside source because they have the scoop. I've got news for you people. You have JACK SQUAT!! Some of you guys are suffering form Knuckleheaditis. I'll know who our new coach is when Kate breaks the story the night before and the guy comes to the podium. Until then, I hope this madness eats some of you boneheads alive...and it can't come too soon. Ridiculous.
I agree that in the past, the SMU job was one nobody wanted, hence our hires post Death Penalty. I think there have been a few changes that make this job much more attractive.
1)Steve Orsini. He has an exceptional reputation and is considered one of the best up and coming ADs in the nation. He clearly is serious about turning the football program around. He is the exact opposite of Copeland and when you are the coach, he is your boss 2)The Pay. There is a big difference between paying 500,000k a year and 1.2 or 1.3 million. 3)Last year, we went 6-6 and were a fourth and one away from going 7-5 and going to a bowl. Actually, we were a few bad calls from going 10-3. If you our the coach who takes SMU to a bowl or a 8 or 10 win season, you will be a very HOT name for BCS jobs. We are not that far away from wining 7 or 8 games a year. 4)Gary Barnett, a former national coach of the year who won titles in the Big 10 and Big 12 has expressed interest in the job. Something like that has NEVER happened before.
