So Where were?Hudman
Lindley Elizee J. Johnson Hurst Leonard Haynes Berry(hurt during game) Bailey Dorsey Poynter Smith Muse Henderson Dennis Mapps(hurt during game) McKinney Kennemer Degroat(preseason) Carrington(preseason) I got 11 defensive projected starters or players who have started at least a game on defense out today or hurt today. I saw all the usual druken fools on the game thread making the usual fools of themselves. SMU wasn't going to stop Rice on defense playing what essentially was its second string so get over it. There was less talent on defense than in any game I remember since 1990. Cry Cry all you want about that damn fool Bennett losing the game but you are exhibiting your ignorance once again. I thought SMU played hard and they got beat because they made one more play. Defense gave up what 30 points playing its second string-SMU gave them 13 points on Ints. Bennett didn't lose that game, If I had known that many players would be out I never would have thought SMU would have a chance. SMU never gave up-SMU was outmanned at least today. Now just ignore the facts and fire away.
Re: So Where were?
Agreed, the players lost the game...i.e. lack of experience
the troublesome absences were Leonard (academic suspension) and Elizee (violation of team rules). Wonder if these guys will ever put on a uniform for SMU again?
thats an ugly list

I guess it will be up to the next coach whether or not Elizee plays for us again since it was a violation of team rules. What was the violation?
Re: So Where were?
Give me a freaking break! I guess if Bennett had the right players he would be 8-1 instead of 1-8 or whatever the hell we are. I like Bennett, yes his is a class act, yes he graduates his players, yes there are very few problems with his players, but NONE of that should excuse the poor coaching. There is no reason we should have lost that game. Can none of you ever agree that a coach should STEAL a game or two. Even if we werent supposed to win this game, and even if most of us thought we would lose this game (because we lose more often than not), we still should have won this game. The kids hung in there, and had they been coached and had they run the clock like any average football coach could, we would have won. Please tell me how many other games you think we could have won had we been able to run out the clock properly? Why do so many people let the coaching staff off of the hook?
If the runner on the last play of the game had been held up, and not tackled, SMU wins the game. In your defense, I guess that is coaching.

haha, for once, poor tackling would have saved this game. we cant do anything right... ![]()
We lost to Rice because this team doesn't know how to win. Period. Full stop.
It doesn't believe it can win and it doesn't believe its coaches can put them in a position to win. We have comparable talent to any CUSA team. We also have the same level of injuries as any CUSA team. The botton line is our guys don't think they are going to win. Even when they are ahead in the 4th quarter - they are wondering how they will get beat. A new coach that can instill confidence and that the team can believe in will spin this team around. The right coach and we are 6-6 next year. Pony 81
Re: So Where were?
Well Said. Despite Stallion's assertion that i am here just to bash PB every week and have no other valid or worthwhile contributions, I want to see us win just as badly as all of you. But I am not going to point out stats like "almost zero sacks" to help let them off the hook because every week we lose drives home how big this opportunity we have to make a good hire is. All of the stats Stallion points out after the games end dont mean anything. A head coach is both that and a recruiter. Coaching, though, means working with who you have. And while we can all say that Rice has better players, our guys worked their butts off to get ahead. We all know that any team can leave us saying "they just made one more play than we did," particularly with our starting lineup yesterday. Buy yet again, PB & Co let it slip away. Rewind to our last possession. The clock is winding down and we get to 3rd down and long. What do we do? THROW AN INCOMPLETE PASS AND STOP THE CLOCK????? Run the ball for the love of God!! Take a knee!!!! Do something - anything but a passing play!!! Consider this one play call. This either runs the clock down a good 30 seconds or, more likely, Rice uses a timeout. THEIR FINAL TIME OUT! Then how do they stop the clock with 1 second left? Now let me be the first to say that, despite some posters' belief, you cannot go back in time to an earlier play, change the outcome, and then argue that all other things that happened subsequent to the play will repeat themselves. (For any of you who want to test this hypothesis - go buy a choose your own adventure book and read both sections that may follow a given decision that you must make, they're different! I do require, however, that the author not be a graduate of TCU for obvious reasons. Although, I am not sure anyone who went to TCU can either read or write so maybe ignore the rule?) POINT being, I call into question this play call and assert that this one decision likely cost us the game yesterday after our players put us in a position to win it. Holding constant our roster and the current game situation at the time, we could have won yesterday and a few others with some better management. Regularly snapping the ball with double digits on the playclock down the stretch certainly didnt help either. But, despite our turnovers, fumbles for the sake of fumbling with no one around, and other short comings, PB&Co gave this one away. Again.
I may be taking this too literally and as we all know....the majority of those guys are injured i.e. Hudman, Lindley, Jordan Johnson, (who on earth is Hunt?), Haynes, Bailey, Dorsey, Poynter, Cory, Jessie, Rock.
