1 second left?am I paranoid?
is there any question if the roles were reversed the refs do not put time back on the clock and let smu kick the winning field goal C-ya @ Milos!
no...we would have had the opportunity...but would have missed the kick. Probably would have hit the upright. This year is all about finding new and different ways to lose games.
Re: 1 second left?
I REALLY have a problem with the way that this game was refereed today. Anyone know if there is a review done of the refs performance in these games. I did see a lot of potential penalties that Rice committed, but went uncalled by the refs. You can call holding on every play and that one line judge was making a concerted effort to do so every time we had a punt or kickoff return. His performance was DISGRACEFUL!
Swann, the ULTIMATE homer, was complaining that he didn't see the official signal the TO until after the clock hit :00 Pretty much a no-brainer that Rice was going to get that TO
The officials handled it fine. The timeout was called before the clock expired. There was a some gamesmanship by our operator or whatever but Rice was in control of the situation.
Our reaction was that we were "hoping time ran out". Hell, if you don't run a stupid busted rout on 3rd and 10 when Fleming breaks off the rout and Willis throws down the field then you may complete the ball for a first down and run out the clock. We lost this game because our offense again shut down in the fourth quarter. We have three consecutive blocks in the back on returns and your defense allows Rice QB Clements to account for more than 500 yards. That's why you're 1-9. I had no doubt we were not going to hold it. I only feel bad for the kids.
The coaches can be calling timeout with 20 seconds to go, and it still doesn't matter. If the play is still going, and the refs haven't blown it dead yet, then the clock continues.
On a related note, can you imagine the venom spewing from this board if Phil had called that play and we didn't get time added back to the clock? That was a bad call by the Rice sideline that JUST got away with...
The real travesty was the no call on the offensive pass interference when Lowery almost had the interception on the long ball. A two handed push right in front of the referee.

doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Their feet got tangled up. I considered it incidental contact. Lowery should have come up with the ball. Again, SMU has only itself to blame for allowing Rice to be in this position.
There feet got tangled up because the guy pushed him down with 2 hands ![]()
I think the guy was still running with 3 seconds left. The field goal was good by inches, and rapidly hooking left ![]()
Leach and BennettTech's Leach is the cry baby of the Big 12. (Of course he is on to something when he suggests that we ought to have bought the referees like UT instead of the players). PB does not need to end his career as the cry baby of the CUSA. A loss is a loss. In a close game, you do not focus on just the last crucial play. There were several other times that the outcome would have been different "if only..."
