Even up 42-27, did anyone out there....... actually think we were going to win that game?
I just felt going in, that we were going to - at some point - go on some sort of run, and then blow it again. Though I will say this, a team that has lost 4 games in the final minute or overtime.... get in the right coach, they are perfectly primed to win NCAA coach of the year honors with this team. We will likely finish 1-11 (or 2-12 if, not next week but the final week, the players dig deep to to send Bennett out a winner on the road), it's amazing that at 1-9 how close we are to being something else. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
A parent at the game turned to a group of us with about 6 minutes left and commented that it is going to be nice to get this win. I quickly found out that this was his first SMU game and advised him to order another drink because the odds are we are walking out losers. Again.
It just plain hurts to see us give all these games away.
agree that this team has been close to having a much different season and that a different coach could possibly get them over the hump. At the same time, there is this thing called pride though. Sooner or later, guys have to take it upon themselves to show the will and determination to make the play that wins or seals the game. We were playing Rice, not Ohio State.
coaching sealed our fate yesterday. As I said after tulsa and tulane, a PB & Co must make decisions that give us the best opportunity to win given the situation. Every play we run changes the future of the game so you can't say one play is the problem, but some questionable strategy and play calling down the stretch cost us the game.
yeah maybe, but still. make a play.

DO most SMU fans ever think we are going to win? lead or not?
Re: Even up 42-27, did anyone out there...
Years of experience have drained all of the confidence from me. We decided last night that we need vendors passing out blood pressure meds in the stands. I was pretty sure they were going to have to get out the paddles to restart some hearts in the 4th.
I lost confidence in the coaches long ago. The winless season a few years ago did it for me. When the game is on the line, don't put your money on Bennett and Co. But really, what do SMU fans expect. You get out of a program what you put into it. SMU has not stood behind the athletic program in decades. There has not been a commitment to winning. Things of late seem to be changing and its pathetic football seasons like the one we are watching that make it obvious changes need to be made with coaching and with recruiting policies. Let's see what Orsini comes up with in a coach. Another unproven coach hire means the coaching fraterity does not believe changes are as forthcoming as Orsini leads us to believe.
Too bad, my friend.... even though we share your bitterness, speaking only for myself... I like to at least have hope. Even if I know it's misguided and unfounded. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh

And that Tulsa game did it for me.
Let's face it. With our coaching staff we start every game as 14 point underdogs.
Our team has no confidence in themselves nor their coaches. So we find ways to lose. Even to very poor teams. Does anyone really think Rice has more talent than SMU? Pony 81
Im sure Rice fans think so....
