Chris Butler

Post by Ponymon »

This kid from Louisiana looks to me like he is the FULL MEAL DEAL! I sure wish that Willis had handed the ball off to Butler more often especially on that last drive. He appears to have that extra something that could really offer some excitement in the coming years.

Just another example of how our coaching staff has no idea who has talent on this team

I can't wait to see what kind of turnaround a real D-1 caoch can make

I like Butler, and was glad to see him in the game, but we have to remember that this was just one game, and Rice wasn't stopping any of our Runners.

One of the biggest disappointments of PBs tenure has been their lack of recruiting in Louisiana. There are plenty more over there that LSU doesn't take who leave the state to play at a high level.

Arkansas would have been another state that he could have made some headway in.

PB said last year that Butler was going to be terrific. I assume that his mother's passing early in the school year may have left him emotionally spent.

Speaking of spent. Did DeMyron run out of gas or interest? Looked to me like he had to see a huge hole to the outside, or he was content to tippie-toe between the tackles and gave little effort to move north/south.

People around me were screaming, to get the tissue train out the game on that last drive. I was a big fan of Martin, but I have given up on him. I'm sick of the tenative tip toeing, and he gives up his legs waaaaay to easy.

In the future, with quality coaching, I am excited about Mapps & Butler both getting a number of touches per game.

Martin is a great blocker. He runs hard for a while ( 1st half at TCU/ 1st half Rice ) but he is really a fullback not a halfback. He worked hard in the off season but the guy can't take the pounding that, as example, Mapps can or the other backs. I hope the new Coaches realize this and just use him mainly as a blocker/ catching a pass out of the backfield etc.....This is not really a knock on Martin. It is just that Bennett at al has told us for three years Martin is going to be our answer at running back and fact is he is at the wrong position..... Personally I think Martin might have made a good Linebacker here. Probably alittle late for that..

A&M recruited him as a fullback not a TB-they are looking more correct everyday. He has some ability-he's hampered in this offense because he is a down hill runner. Doesn't have the agility or quickness to commit to a hole and change directions like a Mapps does. No doubt he's a dancer when the hole isn't there. I'm afraid that what you see (for 3 years-30 ballgames) is what you get. None of our backs have the total package. Mapps is great in space and has strong legs but he has trouble physically being a punishing type of runner. Also, while Mapps has great agility he doesn't have great speed. SMU has some RBs but they are a notch below the RBs at UTEP, Tulane, UCF, ECU, Southern Miss. This is one of the worst run defense conferences in the history of mankind-the UCF kid(we get next week) yet another yesterday to run for 300 yards in a game. Second rung talent-not bad - not great. We are probably better talent wise at RBs than at most positions on the field.

Not too late to be a TE or DT though...
