Bowden / Barnett / MasonIf one of these 3 is not named HC this week....
Is it safe to say the chances of any one of them becoming our next HC is.. a) less than 50% b) less than 25% c) less than 10%
I'm not expecting the announcement until the season has concluded. The hiring of a new coach will signal a new direction and should serve to energize the program and the fans. Why dampen that by following up the annnouncement with 2 more losses.
Unless of course Orsini ends up hiring some spare coordinator, in which case go ahead and announce it so we can start the 6 year death watch. Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.

Re: Bowden / Barnett / Mason
Two have to go through pretty extensive background checks, that takes time. It would look real bad to hire, then something jumps out of the closet blindsiding everyone. I would think it may come next week.
C'mon people...lets all take a deep breathe and a chill pill...lets not be dumb...EVERYONE should know that a new HC wont be named no earlier than that next day after the last game.
Its unethical to fire a coach, ask him to finish out, and hire a new HC during the remainder of the season. Lets just all be patient. a NEW HC is coming soon

Turner and Orsini were both very adamant that they wouldnt hire "a Gary Barnett-type" (direct quote), meaning someone with a scandalous past, someon who would bring negative PR. So Barnett is out and I really dont think Terry Bowden has any interest in this job, he's using SMU to get his name in the media a bit so he'll get a look from one of the other job openings at bigger schools. I dont think either of them are a possibility. If it is Bowden, it wound be until after every other job is filled. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Where did you see that quote? Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.

I think Mason is the most likely of the 3 listed Coaches to hold out because he is the only one of the 3 that I can guarantee you is going to get a shot or at least good looks if he wants one. This has been my fear from before Day 1-that's why I've been pretty broad in my Coaching posts and why I list guys like Turner Gill, Gary Gibbs, and others who aren't "First Choices"
Well, boys and girls, if that is true, I can tell you that you better start lowering your expectations. Again, for what a message board post is worth, take it from me that the interest in this job is just not there. If, indeed, it is true that Barnett is "out", I suspect that Orsini's hands are tied by those above him. Good grief, a guy like Barnett is supposedly willing to come to SMU and he is rejected? C'mon. Get ready for a bad day at black rock.
Alright I've been reading this enough. There may very well not be a happy ending for SMU in presenting Terry Bowden or Urban Meyer at the podium, but to say there is no interest is plain wrong. There is certainly interest in the position, more so than some people would have originally thought. This does not mean that they are backstabbing one another to be the lucky son-of-a-gun to be named head coach, but to say that Orsini's desk is a barren wasteland devoid of quality candidates is an incorrect statement. Get ready for a bad day at black rock? Orsini has been an individual particularly aware of publicity, press, and the outside world's opinion of the school. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that hiring Barnett would be a heap of negative publicity, and negate the news of "hey look! we hired a real coach!" It's tough to say who has an acceptable rap sheet, and who doesn't, and that's debatable...everyone will have their opinion. I'm not talking out of my own backside here, and of course I don't hold some magical key. But to say there is a lack of interest from QUALITY head coaching candidates is a completely incorrect statement.
To panic is rediculous. I believe Orsini already has this guy and is going through the SMU process. Otherwise, Orsini's credibility would be in question with all the talk of a " big name coach " and I do not believe that. Orsini will do a great job.......Like the Navy AD said recently, " A good AD keeps the coaches he is interested in to himself.".....while he is going through the process. It is just a marketing process.....You wonder who it will be ? Fact is some of the coaches mentioned for the SMU job are not being mentioned for other jobs that have opened up. It should be one of those guys who was a great former coach that has not been mentioned for other jobs.
