Orsini on the Vard

Postby ponyte » Sun Nov 11, 2007 7:08 pm

I assume that this was the first time since the announcement of Bennett's termination that folks had an opportunity to talk to Orsini on the Vard. Any insight? I assume he would not announce a hire but did he give any Earl Long like indications (a wink or a nod type of thing)?

A friend told me after the game that both Orsini and Turner basically indicated to him in conversations yesterday that the next coach at SMU will not be Coach Gary Barnett.

See the Bowden / Barnett / Mason thread.

I have no idea. just what I was told. they are shooting for the moon. I think they have interest from Barnett/Shula types and have expressed there is a lot of interest, but are not getting any love from bigger names, which would explain the rumors of us getting shot down.

From his demeanor on Saturday, I'd say Orsini has something done or is close to it. I surmise this from his commenting, 'Isn't the blvd. great? Just think how much better it's going to be when we are actually winning game!' He was positively jovial. :D

From talking to him, I too feel like he already has his man.

I think that he already had our next coach at the press conference. When he got asked if he thought we could attract a proven head coach, his response was " I would not jump off of a cliff without a parachute". I thought then and still I think that who ever is our new coach he already has him rapped up. He is just waiting for the right time to introduce him.

Ok, let's continue to speculate. When did the Fran email controversy blow up? Was that before the Bennett hiring? Can't remember the timing, but to me that Orsini parachute quote seems to make the hiring of Fran less likely.

Anyone notice Orsini wasn't at either basketball game this weekend? I can imagine that is connected to the football vacancy...I saw Turner on Sunday...
