Also, another thing that is bothering me but perhaps is beneficial, is, why turn Barnett down? If he is genuinely interested in coaching at SMU and he is the best, or only quality candidate that wants the job, you hire him. Even if there is an amount of negative publicity, it would seem to me that you would hire the #1 man out there for the job, and then get ready to feed the wolves and turn it into a happy ending.
So if he is interested, and we get a defnitive answer from the administration that, no, we will not employ him, it seems to point to the possibility that there are equally or better qualified candidates out there that have expressed genuine interest in the job. So you can say, no, Barnett would not be a good image for our school, but yes, candidate #2 is equally qualified. (actually qualified, not O-Coordinator from a mediocre Big 10/12 school)
Well, maybe I should have said there is a complete lack of interest from 2 of the names that have been floating around on this board since they told me so themselves, at least in a manner of speaking.[/quote]................I like the way you through in, " at least in a manner of speaking." I know we have been over this before, but YOUR SURE that they would just be jumping to talk to you about the whole process ? Again, like the Navy AD said, " Good AD's want to keep their names to themselves " during the process.... If names leak out a good AD can get that corrected until time to announce. Right ? This happens all the time.

Well, I suppose anything is possible, but ehh - I can understand the need to feel positive and that SMU is relevant and I'm not tryin to take that away, but to me this seems like one more in a long line of instances where SMU fans' hopes could be dashed if they get too high.

Good grief. Nevermind. You're right - I'm sure the new coach will be Les Miles or Steve Spurrier. You guys sound like Wally and the Beav.
just because they said there are "better coaches" out there does not mean they are shooting bigger then Barnett.
The money will pull in someone good, that we have all heard of, who has a good trck record as a HC - but it wont be announced until right after the season.
Also - it will be a five yr contract - there will be no ten yr deal - thats just silly.
Just so you know, lots of dollars have been raised...You can also start assuming that we are bringing in very big names for interviews...including former NFL head coaches.
