Word is that Mason is a strong possibility to go to UCLA. With Bowden saying no to SMU, and SMU saying no to Barnett, I ask you, what "big hire" are you people going to pop off about next? Seriously, several coaching jobs are about to open up and the advantage SMU gave itself by firing Bennett with 4 games to go is drying up.

A Big 10 guy to the Pac 10? Not so much.

Firing Bennett at that time is not a pool that is drying up. It did give us a head start on potentially 119 other schools around the country. It also gave us more time to put together a committee, prepare for any search, and it gave us the so-called spotlight for being the first and only school so far without a coach. Also, it gave Orsini the time to apply to the NCAA for a recruiting waiver, which appears to have turned out nicely, as so far none of the commits have run off elsewhere, save Corey Fuller who has had one ear open the whole time.

I think a little too-much emphasis is placed on this "window" here. For all we know, this search may be over. For all we know, Orsini had been putting out feelers since Arkansas State, or even before that.

Word was Fran had a secret deal set to buy-out at TAMU and come to SMU.

Before that, it was word that Terry Bowden would come here.

Then it was Gary Barnett would come here, then it was we don't want him.

It's tough to say a coach is going somewhere that still has a head coach. Of course that's subject to change, but this is just way too much speculation, but that's what is fun to do. I seem to agree with what was said that it is telling that there is very, very little information coming out on this. All we hear is 10 million raised this, and secret buyout to come to SMU that. I don't think we will be introducing another Phil Bennett come Thanksgiving.

I also think there was a decided advantage to cutting ties with Bennett when we did, and we used all the advantages we could.

I have a feeling there was no real interest in Bowden in the first place but "postering" by Bowden only.

I think we can all sigh a little relief that he's gone off in the sunset with good riddance. :!:
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

The Twin Cities Columnist that wrote that also mentioned SMU. The guy is a low rent Randy Galloway trying to get his buddy a job so he is floating "interest." The guy is trying to get mason's name out there; just like Barnett is.

Come off the ledge.

Thanks for the Blog revival. It is better than ever. Seems you have adopted the surge theory and are promoting by inundating us with mounds of information. Keep up the good work and hold on to that press pass.

He that giveth the press pass is irritated-eth. No matter. I prefer my usual spot in the upper deck.

I said from the beginning that anyone expecting a quick hire was fooling themselves. Honestly, I am more amused than irritated at those that have already gone into panic mode.
