One last thing I just realized about this weekend

The SWAC almost always has its champion go the "play in" game in Dayton for the NCAAs. The winner of that plays the #1 overall seed. That means we lost not one but TWO games by double digits to teams from what's perceived as the weakest conference in the country.

Comparisons to two Sunbelt losses in football anyone?

pretty good huh? The good news is doherty seems to be getting a pass from the faithful. Any other coach over the past 20 years would have been crucified for losses to the likes of Southern or Alabama State no matter what. Remember when Dement lost at home to Appalacian State with a young team (before it was cool to lose to App State)... that was the beginning of the end for him and this board went ape****. And don't forget, Paul Quinn beat Southern so we are more lowly than Paul Quinn right now. We were the only team to go 0-2 in our own tournament.

I don't care how Doherty spins it on the postgame show, this is very bad and not at all expected by him or anybody else. Yes, we are playing several freshman. But aren't they supposed to be quality players, a couple with prep school experience? There is no excuse for the performance this weekend. Blow out double digit losses to low, low level D-1 in name only teams, at home no less. Doherty has raved about Derrick Roberts and called him a leader. Where is the development? With all the games that Roberts, Killen, and Fall have played there is no excuse for that. Its not like we lost 5 starters, we lost two. I don't expect quality road wins, but there is no justification for this weekend, none. maybe i am in a bad mood over the football debacle, but hoops was worse by 10 fold if you ask me.

Geez I think we may already been eliminated from the NCAA At-Large bid and its not even Thanksgiving. I can hear Billy Packer now-sure they won 25 straight but those were some bad losses at home to No. 323 and No. 392. Seriously, the W/L Record doesn't mean too much IF we've got the foundation. I wish this 2008 Class was more solid. I just don't think many teams would have been rebuilt using 7 freshmen. That's not how its done. Wouldn't it have been more reasonable to get a couple of JUCOs, a Division 1A Transfer and the best of the rest freshman. As it is, Doherty's going to be out on the recruiting trail with some pretty ugly numbers after his second and most probably his third year. Who builds a BB program like this?

I thought you liked the prep school approach, Stal. Rhodes. Dia. Walker. Prep school boys. Just like Navy's football team.

I know its not about the record this year as long as we post something not laughable. But for godsake, if you are going to schedule games like Southern, alabama state and Paul Quinn, YOU HAVE TO BEAT THEM!!!!!!!!Otherwise its better to play Texas Tech and lose by 50. And honestly, I mean that in every way...from a team and player development aspect as well as a public perception and recruiting standpoint.

I do like the Prep School route but not 7 players in one class. Have you guys realized that if there is no attrition(probably will be) the 2007 and 2008 Classes IS OUR TEAM essentially for 4 years. Very few scholarships are going to be availiable in coming classes. You want to spread out the scholarships among the classes. You want to remain competitive-or recruits are going to want to know why you won 5 games which is what we are looking at if we can't win these games at home. Our opponents build their programs differently. Why didn't Doherty-oh I think the reason is pretty obvious.
