Recruiting Idea

Postby TheRealTruth » Mon Nov 12, 2007 5:23 pm

Why not spend a little of the budget designated for the next coach on hiring several guys whose entire job is to recruit and find those diamonds in the rough. Big programs have that and if we are willing to drop a mil on a coach, why not spend a little on a recruiting operation. Because, Then you have a situation where the coach flies to the recruits home and seals the deal only. Otherwise, you have a situation where the head coach and assitants are spending tons of time trying to coach, hunt for the players, and then recruit them. Therefore, I feel even if we get a big name coach, that doesn't neccesarily mean he will find the players. We have to find them.

And then when we were shut down again by the NCAA we could go pro and compete directly with the Cowboys.

I'm not saying cheat. There is nothing illegal about have guys identify and scout talent, rather then rely on tape they send and rivals.com as Bennett and Co. did.

What you are advocating is cheating.

So you're saying official representitives of University whose job it is to scout talent is illegal? Sorry, but you're mistaken. I think non-university associated indivduals doing the recruiting is illegal.

By the way though, when is USC going to be counseled for Reggie Bush's family allegedly getting $600 K in benefits?

Our AD (he is part of the University) had to get a special waiver from the NCAA just to contact our current committments.

As you are describing it-it would appear to be a violation of recruiting rules. There are strict NCAA limitations on who can recruit, calandar dates when players can be evaluated, who may contact such recruits and when. No one except a recruiting coordinator and/or Coach can recruit officially for the university. So you couldn't hire extra guys to scout players off campus. Now if a fan finds a recruit they can contact the Coaching staff who can go from there. Also, you could beef up your department for breaking down film and tracking recruits. Coachs don't generally recruit based on Rivals-no doubt they have subscriptions and review the information-but generally schools get film from high school Coaches or family.

Not talking about that AD. Talking about a guy who has an office in the same building as Orsini who calls up the Head Coach and says: Saw a kid play in Cutoff, Louisiana who may not get noticed by LSU, and that maybe you should give the guy a call

I can do that from my office. Do you think they will pay me? The coaches have networking in place to find recruits. If you want to spend money to find those diamonds you speak of, take a look at our past 6 years. There is a reason the teams that win the recruits that are highly rated usually win the most games.

The principle is the same. There are limits on the number of coaches (read that as anyone who is employed by the athletic department) who can go out and scout and recruit off campus. What you are suggesting is illegal.

People who arent employed by the university (such as..... me) can go attend as many games and and see as many players as we want, because we arent employed by the athletic department. We can call or write a coach and say "you should see this kid". But an athletic department cannot employ an army of scouts outside of its coaching staff, the way you are suggesting.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

isn't it even more restrictive than just university employees. I thought they had to actually designate certain coaches that can even evaluate during a particular recruiting Period. During some periods for example only 2 Coaches (not sure of the exact number) could evaluate. (September-November). And only designated Coaches can actually contact recruits for the purpose of recruiting. University personnel in general are not allowed to recruit. In fact, I answered my own question because that's why Orsini and his assistant had to get a waiver from the NCAA to actually "recruit" as defined by the NCAA.
