Let's toast the Tuna, and ask for a clone

Postby Sam I Am » Sun Oct 12, 2003 6:18 pm

Parcells proves that a coach makes a big difference in what happens to a so-so team. Texas Tech and Kansas hired successful Offensive coordinators from OU. DKR saved Texas once. Maybe SMU ought to look north for the coach it needs.

yep Bennett coached at Kansas St Junior College where 50% of the squad were junior college players, Mangino has turned it around immediately at Kansas Junior College by recruiting what 15-20 Junior College Players a year and Leach brought in 9-10 great Junior College players this year at key positions at Texas Tech Junior College. Its just that easy!!!!!! Seriously why don't some of you people think about what you are posting before presenting this trash. Bennett does not have those alternatives so why bash the man when only a handful of the players he recruited are even on the field. You are comparing apples to oranges. If you want to bash someone actually take the time to investigate how programs in Big 12, CUSA and the WAC are built-compare it SMU's model-and ask yourself whether the correct foundation has been laid to allow for success. If there is one thing more irratating than the Pollyannas on this board who blindly refuse to accept that JUCO's are an almost universally accepted and necessary ingredient of a strong Division 1A program, its those of you that point to these asinine examples and blame the coach for not duplicating that success.

Stallion,

Dude I'm on the JUCO bandwagon. You're preaching to the choir in my case.Schools like Miami, Cal-Berkeley,and USC have between 5 and 10 JUCOS on their rosters. And these schools are ranked higher than SMU in the U.S. News rankings. I think TCU might have more JUCOS than us and they are relatively academically comparable to SMU.

SMU coahces have done more with less. Explain that one folks. Coaches are judged on the basis of how well they play the hand they are dealt. Bennett fails at duplicate bridge.
