Navy accepts 5th straight bowl invitationThey're going back to San Diego to play in the Poinsettia Bowl.
But remember, we have people on this board who were adament saying Paul Johnson's brand of football won't work here. Let's make sure that we pass up any coach who has had some success. And don't bring up the "He's going to a BCS school'' argument because no one knows where he could end up. Whatever!
Re: Navy accepts 5th straight bowl invitation
We've had our Dave Smith - we don't need another one.
I agree. We would be lucky to get him. There is not a coach in the nation who over the last 5 years has done more with less talent. Given our academic standards, how horrible DFW area players think we are......a coach who does more with less should be our wet dream.
And don't give me this Texas Ties BS. A high School coach wants his players to go to the next level and be successful at the next level. 50 bucks and my left nut says the job that Paul Johnson has done at Navy is more impressive to a high school coach that a joker like Bennett, who as those connections...but cant coach.
maybe we should worry about conference USA before upper tier conferences. btw, Johnson is't going anywhere....
upper tier conference?? we are in CUSA!!! hardly upper tier. and Navy has beaten ND (IND), Air Force (MWC), Duke(ACC), Pitt(BIG EAST) this year...hung with Rutgers and Wake. If SMU could emulate those wins, we'd all be happy!! we lose to frikkin ark st, rice, and tulane!!!!
Don't forget Rice for the fifth time in Bennett's six years.
i try to forget, but the nightmares of first and goal last year will haunt me forever... ![]()

Whatever![/quote].............Lets see, Willis/Rhodes( 4.3 40) at QB, Martin at FB, Mapps at 1 SB and Butler/Shankle at the other SB ??? I like it....Think about this, since the DP, SMU tried to run the ball more one season(Cavan's first) and that has been our ONLY winning season post DP.
Johnson would be a great hire. He, like Grobe at Wake Forest, wins with substandard talent by using a great run based system. His teams also play hard and play with discipline. His system would work very well in our league. In my opinion, we'd be lucky to get a coach with his track record.
I mean if we were USC I could see why we could make a statement that his brand of football wont work here, but hell, he is winning at Navy! Guy is doing more with less. That is the number one thing we need in a coach.
He is running his system at Navy because he feels that system gives him the best chance to win on any given Saturday when his team is smaller and less talented than 95% of the teams they play. Sound familiar?
