I think Nutt would be a great coach at SMU.

post of the year! exactly on point, why are we so holier than thou about our coach hire with our past? this is top level BS and with the success some coaches have had after their falls from grace (price, o'leary, et al) i do not understand this rationale!
after all, we will house the bush library (and while i do not want to get into politics, this is way more contoversial and devisive than a frikkin FB coach!!)
Turner needs to wake the F%#$ up!!! i thought he was an althletic-friendly pres? wonder if orsini knew what he was getting himself into??
this [deleted] may be the end of my smu fan-dom. i thought we were finally gonna pony-up...who do they think we can get??
given that criteria, we wouldn't even hire beliceck (spy-gate?)!!!
i hate our faculty and our entire admin for continually hand-cuffing us!
J-Will, if you were smart you'd transfer. they always need a good qb at duke.

If you're going to turn down qualified candidates with a "sordid" past, then it only makes sense to mention it if you have qualified candidates without a past that want the job.
Because I don't care, even around here, or anywhere, you hire the best candidate for the job and then put measures in place to make sure no parties get hurt.
It makes absolutely NO SENSE to disqualify publicly candidates unless you've got yourself another equally qualified candidates that want the job. Or, we just honestly don't care about football anymore. And I seriously, seriously, doubt that will ever happen.

True but remember they expanded Razorback Stadium in Fayettnam while he has been there.

I don't think there are tampering rules in the NCAA regarding Universities contacting coaches. If there are, I can't find a single instance where they were discussed or enforced.
I am not sure you can tortiously interfere with a contract that clearly has a liquidated damages provision. How can a third party be sued for damages beyond the liquidated damages provision of the contract? If the contract provides that if coach breaches contract, University is entitled to X, how can a university claim its damages are more than X? That is the argument I would make. It isn't as if any agent conversations with another university during the season would not be discoverable.

They expanded the Stadium because attendance and interest was increasing.

I dream of the day that we need to expand Ford because we are selling out. How great would that be?!

I'm not trying to argue the point. I was just adding to why the attendance had popped up.
But it's too bad Reynolds Stadium is bigger because you can't see the Mountains anymore during a day game.

I will, but this kind of statement by Turner is just typical of self-imposed penalties that smu continues to make. we can't blame the DP anymore, we keep hanging ourselves!

Perhaps he can say such things because a decision was made long ago.

Nonetheless, those remarks come across as arrogant and aloof. Again SMU's true colors shine. SMU really does think it is holier than thou! Way to alienate Dallas, fans, etc.

if that is indeed the case, either announce it or don't say anything at all.
i just think it comes off as very hypocritical to say we will not hire a coach with a past when we are without a doubt the most storied legend of cheating in NCAA history (right or wrong).
I, along with most smu fans, dont give a $[deleted] about a coach's past if he produces wins, bowl games, and C-USA championships. If we came out of a plane in fatigues and had deion sanders, warren sapp, arrests and miami's reputation i would love it!!
bottom line...i want a winner. and 20+ years is too long to wait. do whatever it takes, and if that means tarnishing our image, so be it!!!
i love smu, went to undergrad and law school there...great that we take pride in our academics (although i don't think we are on par with northwestern, duke, stanford and all of the other schools that we think we are), but lets take pride in our football or basketball team...for once!!!!!!
