Are we going to end up with a Bob Toledo type hire??

Postby ponyinNC » Tue Nov 13, 2007 9:14 am

When Tulane Athletic Director Rick Dickson began his quest for a football coach that could turn around the fortune of the Tulane football program, he searched all over the nation for a candidate who had achieved success at the highest level of collegiate football and could also continue to meet the expectations of graduating high caliber student-athletes from Tulane University.

His search concluded at the doorstep of Bob Toledo, a coach who not only met the criteria, but was the perfect fit for the Green Wave football program. Toledo became the 37th head football coach in school history when he was formally introduced on Monday, December 11, 2006.

Toledo, 60, brings more than 30 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Green Wave football team, including head coaching stints at Cal Riverside (15-6 with two championships from 1974-75), University of the Pacific (14-30 from 1979-82) and UCLA (1996-2002). He has coached in 13 bowl games during his career, including seven of the traditional New Year's Day bowls.

Is this the type of hire we can expect?? The first paragraph sounds eerily familiar doesn't it?? He was a big name for Tulane, but in all honesty how much media buzz surrounded that hire?? NONE!

Toledo was a good hire and will do a lot for Tulane but he is not the big splash SMU needs. SMU is in much worse shape then Tulane. SMU needs a coach that can bring a program back, not one that did a stint at a big school.

And your answer is Craig James. Genius.

One of the main reasons Toledo was fired was due to off the field issues....so no,we would not hire a Bob Toledo type
