"People in the biz tell me Terry Bowden is pushing hard for the SMU gig.
If SMU opts not to go for an experienced coach, it may look at Wisconsin co-defensive coordinator Dave Doeren. He's one of the nation's best assistants -- a young, dynamic coach destined for big things. His energy and knowledge may be just what a program like SMU needs.
I also have been told someone connected with SMU has contacted LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini to gauge his interest in the job."

Good chance you are right, but of the assistants that will be first time head coaches, I would snap him up instantly. He is going to be a good head coach and everybody knows it.

Ha Ha Ha. Pelini has zero interest. Dead on, Stallion. The guy who wrote that piece should also pick up the phone and call Bowden, himself. They both write for Yahoo! for goodness sake.
It is no surprise some of the canidates contacted would not be interested in the SMU job but at least we are contacting qualified, impressive coaching candiates. I would rather contact these highly qualified coaches and get turned down than go for the 'unheard of' 'diamond in the rough' coach as in previous SMU coaching searches.

I've gotten to know the Pelinis pretty well through my daughter. I don't really want to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, but I get the feeling that Bo is not interested. Just my feeling. I could be wrong.

Copeland Copeland Copeland

Hopefully, Copeland II won't be crowned in the next few weeks

Charleston Pony wrote:SMU hired a recruiting firm, right? The flesh peddlers will undoubtedly contact lots of people to "guage their interest". Have none of you ever had one of those calls?
No, the search firm hasn't called me. I'd turn it down but I'd like to tell Orsini what I think...
Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.
