The Missing Attribute...Really thinking about our young team and what could be missing (other than experience). Do we really have a slasher type player? Do we have a player that can take it to the hoop and get some free throws? The slasher also disrupts the defense and leaves some open lanes for dishes and dunks.
I think Ike was the closest we had to it last year. He got to the line and made them count. Does everyone remeber Coach D really stressing the importance of making more free throws than the other team makes. WE ARE NO WHERE CLOSE. I sure hope Rhodes turns into the slasher I think he is. Roberts has that ability but really looked different Sunday. I don't think he was injured, but looked less active. We really got spoiled with B-Hop's abilities. Imagine a controlled B-Hop with these young players. Any thoughts???
The last true slasher type I can think of was Justin Isham, and although he tried hard he could never seem to finish and was ultimately of little help in that role. I think a fundamentally sound position player can get to the hoop and get fouls just from the offense. Now making the free throws is another thing entirely.....
I really do believe that benny can fill that role. Hes got the right type of body/athleticism for it, and hed be better off dunking than he would shooting.
I Doh was going to teach these guys some motion offense.....why do we need a "slasher"? How about some guys who move without the ball, get open, knock down some shots and play defense on the other end?
We definitely need a slasher to BLITZKRIEG to the basket! ![]()
Is there any way we can form some sort of alliance? Far East Conference
Hey...I'm not asking Coach D to roll the ball out there and let them play...I'm all about ball control and set offense, but slashers can change games when the offense breaks down or when we need some momentum...I want to see the ball flying around the perimeter and breaking the zone or individual defender...That slasher player serves a role on every team...SMU needs to get to the line and that player would fill that void...
I'll take a pure shooter. Does not appear we have one, maybe Harp is supposed to be. Maybe Alex will turn out to be that guy. He has BY FAR the best looking shot on the team.
Agreed...Pure shooter could have helped us for the past 10 years...
I think it is way too early to start evaluating talent. With no real skilled leadership on the court it'll take a while for these true freshmen to really settle down into their abilities.
