The Best Head Coach to Implement the "Stallion" Model . . .

Postby PonyTime » Tue Nov 13, 2007 8:09 pm

If our choices included the following options from the great (and not so great) football movies:

Denzel Washingon, 'Remember the Titans'
Al Pacino, 'Any Given Sunday'
Charles S. Dutton, 'Rudy'
Billy Dee Williams, 'Brian's Song'
Billy Bob Thornton, 'Friday Night Lights'
Ronald Reagan, 'Knute Rockne All American'
The Rock, 'Gridiron Gang'
Gene Hackman, 'The Replacements'
James Caan, 'The Program'
Goldie Hawn, 'Wildcats'
Jon Voight, 'Varsity Blues"

Select one and defend your position . . .

(as you can tell - I am getting bored reading the same ole posts)

none of the above. Jerry Reed, Red Beaulieu, U of L. Big time coach comes to SMU after a tough time at a bowl game.

Billie Dee played Gale Sayers and was not a coach. I vote for Lando Calrissian.

To throw my 2 cents in:

My Vote is for whoever plays the Head Coach in the movie Johnny Be Goode (starring Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Downey Jr. and Uma Thurman). For those who do not recall this classic, it is loosely based on SMU, TCU and the entire SWC. Jim McMahon and Howard Cosell make cameos in this one.

Correct - Billy Dee Williams does not qualify as he is not the head coach . . . though Lando would satisfy a number of posters on this board, based on the comments that I saw a few weeks ago.

Jon Voight as Bud Kilmer. He won a lot of division titles with the West Caanan Coyotes.

Hector Elizondo and Robert Loggia from Necessary Roughness

Yep, the right movie coaches for SMU are the actors from the 1991 movie filmed at NTSU. We can fill the stands if Kathy Ireland kicks our extra points.

Actually - we probably have a better shot at the Fonz than a number of the coaches I have seen mentioned on this site. Didn't Winkler send his daughter to SMU?

A female kicker? Then we would have to hire Gary Barnett.

What he said about that was hilarious --
Barnett wrote:We have not done anything wrong, there isn’t a shred of evidence to this date to back up any allegations that have been made, and there won't be. It was obvious Katie was not very good. She was awful. You know what guys do? They respect your ability. You can be 90 years old, but if you can go out and play, they'll respect you. Katie was not only a girl, she was terrible. OK? There's no other way to say it. She couldn't kick the ball through the uprights.

either way, there you have an Orsini connection. Watch closely as lil' Rudy runs his finger down the list of players dressing for the game. Halfway down you'll see Orsini, S.

Can't remember if anything takes place w/ the fullback during the practice scenes. I do remember another skill position player being told to "act like a captain" by the coach, but it wasn't the FB. Guess there must've been two offensive captains.

Let's not forget about Hayden Fox aka Craig T. Nelson. Not only has he had Success in Minnesota - but also turning a 5'8 in Tom Cruise into a top LB in All the Right Moves. He might be able to convince Luther and Dauber to join his staff . . .

I hear he is available:
