Here's a coach who went from BCS to non-BCS
albeit in bball. And while he wasn't run out of town, the Hawkeye faithful were probably about as polarized as Ark fans are for Houston Nutt.

i dont think basketball should count. you can have a shot at the national title by being in the final 65. in football, you have to be in the BCS to have a 1/2 shot at a national title.
example:
6-6 SMU did not make a Bowl Game in Football = never had a shot at a national title
a .500 basketball SMU team can win the C-USA tournament and make the National Championship Bracket with a shot at the title
moral of the story- nobody would leave a BCS conference school for a non-bcs conference school in Football. you have to be in the Big 12, 10, SEC, Pac10, BigEast, etc to have even the slightest chance at a national championship or big bowl with large payout
