BOWDEN, BOWDEN, BOWDEN!!!!!!!

If Bowden is the "complete package", how come it has taken him a decade to get back into the coaching arena? If the powers that be are trying to avoid baggage, then they will take a pass on Bowden, no doubt. While there is no doubt that he can coach, I am quite concerned about the fact that he walked away in the middle of the season on his team, and I think everyone should be concerned about whether or not he even has the recruiting connections that he used to have, as well as significant ties to Texas.
While I think he could be a good coach for us, and certainly would be worth looking at for name recognition alone, there are a lot of other folks out there that might be a better fit.

Dude, give it up. Many on this board, myself included, were told on the Boulevard last week that Bowden aint coming here. We're hiring, and I quote, a "currently active coach." No Bowden. No Barnett. Perhaps Neuheisel. Perhaps Nutt. Perhaps Paul what's his name from the Cowboys. Maybe Shula. But no Bowden.

Bowden was forced out after he started a season 2-3 after winning 20 games in a row. He made some really bad decisions off the field and when he went 2-3, Auburn's biggest booster used that as an excuse to force him out. An old boss and good friend of mine works closely with said booster.

steve-o said current active coach...wow. hope it would make as big of a "splash" as Bowden. Can't think of many active coaches (that we could get) that would.
Yeah, I'm beginning to wonder if "the best available coach in America to come to SMU" was nothing more than typical AD-speak.

No offense to anyone - but I am wondering why Steve Orsini would state publicly (on the "boulevard") that he is hiring an "active" coach? If he's got his guy, then why not make a real public statement? If it is an active coach, then unless he has gotten permission from that coach's AD, he's not even allowed to talk with him. It just doesn't sound particularly plausible to me.
Can the person who actually heard it from him directly explain to me why he would make such a comment?

Maybe to quell rumors that we're bringing in a Bowden or Barnett. And maybe that's the same reason Turner's making his comments about not hiring someone with a past. He knows Bowden, Barnett, and I suppose Neuheisel are out. I believe they already have their man but cannot announce until the season is over. Have no idea on the legality of all that.

I know this is pure speculation, but maybe Turner/orsini are publicly saying these things to keep whoever we are aiming at from thinking we are interviewing others?? If we are going for a current coach, then we haven't signed a K yet. And maybe Turner/O are quelling these rumors to keep that person from thinking we are hiring bowden/barnett/et al.
Make any sense?
I know i was steamed when turner said no coach with a past, as it seems to hinder our search, but maybe theres a reason behind it???
