Well - if i'm using your words you said active coaches with no baggage. No active coach would have been able to interview without giving notice to his employer - pro or collegiate. And if this had happened, you can bet hundreds of people like me would already know about it.

High hopes. You have High Hopes.

You are totally misconstruing the term active here. Maybe Terry just decided to run his [deleted] around the track a couple times for his health's sake.

You don't know what I think and don't put words in my mouth. I have simply relayed the info I got from someone I would consider a pretty reliable source.

And, since you asked, I could care less about a "splash" hire. I want someone who will both be able to recruit quality athletes and coach them. Because, as everyone here but Stallion seems to know, you gotta have someone who can not only attract and retain talent but someone who knows how to coach a damned ball game. And, personally, I don't care a whit about pasts -- as long as they don't bring that here and detrimentally affect our chances of winning.

I don't know what if any baggage Bowden has. If he does, what is it? I know I'm 1,000 mi. away, but his name is constantly mentioned as one of the top candidates from every source that I have seen. My understanding is that Orsini knows him personally, Orsini said he fired Bennett in order to get a head start with the coaching search, he also stated that he has CJ involved on more than one occasion. All this speculation leads me to think it is Bowden. May just want to wait till after the season is over to announce it. I don't think he has any interest in making Bennett feel any worse than he probably feels. Just speculating though.

Bowden's only percieved baggage is that he quit on his Aurburn team mid-season when he was basically told he would be fired anyway. And the BS rumors swirling that he impregnated a booster's daughter (talk about soap orera bs!!).

Whatever his baggage (real or imagined), it has been 10years people.!! how about a statute of limitations on baggage?? :P

Quitting job is not what I would consider to be baggage. Getting someone pregnant is easy to check out. So that would be a yes/no thing. I get the impression SMU was basically talking about poor judgement or lack of any at all. Meaning, Barnett, Fran. Rick N.
