Those of us who believed Steve Kragthorpe was the wrong coach at the wrong time never believed that one man could destroy four years of hard work in just four games. Yet that is exactly what he has done. Stand with us as we at FireKragthorpeNow inform the public about this disaster of epic proportions.

Hmm, I'll take four games over TWENTY YEARS.
GO MUSTANGS!

FIGHT ON!

They were too cheap to spend $2.99 on godaddy.com to get their own domain.

FireKragthorpeNow

Your source for information on the Steve Kragthorpe train wreck

http://firekragthorpenow.com/

This site is dedicated to the removal of Steve Kragthorpe as head coach of the University of Louisville. After four uninspiring performances, we could no longer sit back and not have our voices heard. Four years ago, Bobby Petrino brought something new and unexpected to the University of Louisville football program, consistent winning at the highest level. Now, Steve Kragthorpe has brought something old and unpleasant back to the University of Louisville football program, embarrassment and losing.

On January 9, 2007, Tom Jurich made his first mistake as Athletic Director when he hired a small time coach from Tulsa. In an act of hubris, Tom Jurich mistakenly believed he was responsible for the success of the Orange Bowl champion Cardinals rather than the hard work of Bobby Petrino. In an effort to prove his own greatness, Jurich rushed to hire a coach that barely had a winning record in two bad conferences. Now the fruits of that botched non-search are playing out in front of the entire football nation.

When John L Smith dumped the Louisville football program during the halftime of the 2002 GMAC Bowl, no one expected that a relatively unknown offensive coordinator from Auburn would become so successful. In his four years at Louisville, Petrino won 41 out of 50 games and brought a physical NFL style to the program. Those of us who believed Steve Kragthorpe was the wrong coach at the wrong time never believed that one man could destroy four years of hard work in just four games. Yet that is exactly what he has done. Stand with us as we at FireKragthorpeNow inform the public about this disaster of epic proportions.

The Running Game Breaks Down 11/14/2007

Other than the incompetent coaching of Steve Kragthorpe, the talk around the Louisville football program has focused recently on the disappearing running game. Under Saint Petrino, Louisville was one of the most consistent and powerful running programs in the country. During the last four seasons, Louisville averaged 212.8 rushing yards per game and averaged 5.3 yards per carry during that same period. Despite the impressive point totals Petrino's offenses produced, his teams still ran the ball 57% of the time during his brief, but amazing tenure.

Although Steve Kragthorpe claimed he was committed to the run, nothing in his coaching background suggested that would be the case. In fact, Kragthorpe's background suggested he would be the exact opposite of Bobby Petrino. Petrino believed the best way to defeat the blitz was with the run. Kragthorpe believes the best way to defeat the blitz is with the pass. While both philosophies may work, the numbers certainly support Petrino's view. During the 50 games he coached at Louisville, the Cards failed to rush for 100 yards just twice. So far, the Cards have already failed to rush for 100 yards in five of the ten games Kragthorpe has coached.

Petrino summed up his philosophy best in comments he made to Peter King of Sports Illustrated last January. "The first thing you do if you want to win is learn to run the football. And run it well in the fourth quarter. You do that, you wear teams down. Then, of course, I like to throw the ball, and throw it downfield. But running it well has to be your priority.'' Clearly, running the ball hasn't been a priority under Steve Kragthorpe's BYU passing game system. Louisville's inability to control the line of scrimmage and run with power has not only cost this team its preseason goals, but possibly a chance at a winning season and a tenth consecutive bowl game.
