BOWDEN! BOWDEN! BOWDEN! BOWDWN!

I'm acting like I'm 10, but I'm desperate. I love SMU Football too much to see it destroyed by you people who are content with 1-11 seasons.

Who's content with 1-11 seasons? I challenge you to find one person who says that.

It's the classic straw man argument that politicians use all the time. Attribute an absurd statement to a nameless/faceless group of people so that your statements seem reasonable by comparison. Here, our speaker is attempting to hide his juvenile statements by raising your hackles by the possibility that some pony fan wants to continue losing.

I, on the other hand prefer, needlessly convoluted rationalization to make myself seem smarter than I actually might be.

Bowden was the overwhelming choice of ponyfans a few days ago. I see no evidence that any one is strongly against Bowden. If there is someone its more likely Turner or Orsini. He could be slow-playing SMU (a real possibility since West Virginia is his admited dream job and there are reports that Rich Rodriquez would be a candidate at FSU if his father retires. Or perhaps Bowden's not interested.

All of you who are getting wet over Steve Kragthrope are the equivalent of the people I am talking about who are content with 1-11 seasons. Because what would make you think the result would be any different from SMU's 3 prior coaches who had zero winning experience. The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

I'm not ecstatic about Kragthorpe, if that is who we are getting, but he is not on the same level as Rossley, Cavan, or Bennett. Kragthorpe led Tulsa back from being absolutely awful to contending for C-USA championships and attending numerous bowl games.

So what your saying, is you want SMU's program to be like Tulsa's? Sorry, but I don't share your vision. I don't want SMU to have a couple of good years and then fall back to mediocrity. I want our next hire to make SMU a perinial contender even after he moves on. I want everyone to know that SMU isn't screwing around anymore. It's all about the signal or rather message we send to people with this next hire. Krag would be a real downer in that department.

Wow. Way to add to what I said. I clearly said that I wasn't ecstatic about Kragthorpe, thus I would not be happy if he came here. What I was saying (since you obviously have reading comprehension difficulties) is that Tulsa and SMU are a lot alike. Both schools are small, private institutions that had/have a less-than-desirable record as of late. Obviously SMU should have the upper-hand being in Dallas and having the history and affluence that SMU has at its disposal. All of us want SMU to be a perennial contender in the college football world, if you think otherwise I suggest you go back to your hole and shut up because you've been eating too many lead paint chips. We all want to shift the national perceptions of SMU and its athletic objectives. So quit acting like you're the only one that wants SMU to do well and that the rest of us are stupid.

Ok, I agree you want SMU to do well, but your defintion of success is just different from mine. And the reason I say that is because you would accept Krag as Coach where such a hire would be unacceptable to me. I mean really, i heard the same BS with Bennett after his hire and I'm tired of it. I want a coach that is not being run out of some where but is in demand by the top teams. Bottom Line: You will settle and I won't.

And yes you're right, currently we are simmilar to Tulsa which sucks and is the result of the last 20 years. But would we have been compared to them 20 years ago?.....A BIG NO. Sorry, but I want to go back to a time where SMU is mentioned in the same breath as a big time program.

maybe I missed it but if Bowden is permanently or temporarily unavailiable-do you have a second choice or should we just shut the program down if BIG NAMES are not interested?

Shut the Program Down if don't get a big name. Otherwise, what's the point. Wait till i'm an old man and then watch some lucky coach on a good year take SMU to the New Orleans Bowl. Sorry, not looking for that. I can live without Bowden but not without a Star Power Name Coach. I just see Bowden as are best shot right now.

Where did I say I would accept Kragthorpe? No really, I want to know where I said that.

Bowden is not even on the LONG list, so forget about him. When again was the last time he coached? There is a reason for that.
