Guess what Superman may not be availiable. Get used to it. Geez even Ponyboy had it right when he pointed out that none of the qualities needed to turn this program around require a "Big Splash". Would it be nice yes. Money can't buy everything. Coaches come Coaches go. Build the best damn program you can and more Coaches will be interested and more will be successful. Yes I hope SMU get a quality Coach with a proven track record and big name reputation-but it takes two to Tango. And many Coaches may not find the SMU attractive for very good reasons. SMU Fans perception of its entitlement to a Big Splash would probably bring laughter from much of the Country.
As would the notion that someone who reads rivals is a recruiting expert.

There is a possibility (my rumor no one elses) that the loser could become a leading candidate if a deal has not already been struck. I would be very happy with either of them.

(I personally think as deal has already been struck)

Nutt seems less and less likely to get fired this season. First, U of A's new AD doesn't take control until Jan 1, 2008. For now UA has Broyles as AD. I don't see Broyles firing Nutt then hiring a coach with the new AD sitting on the sidelines waiting until the New Year to have final say. Also, I don't see the new AD waiting until Jan 1 to fire Nutt and start the hiring process. That would waste an entire recruiting class. Nutt will have to quit for him to be available (which is possible). So I don’t think the final 2 games of the year for UA are make or break for Nutt. Nutt’s future is in his hands. He can stay one more year (or more depending on performance) or jump ship this year and find new opportunities.

What the "experts" I talk to say is that Nutt will leave on his own if he is not fired. But if he does not resign, they will "negotiate" a designed resignation for him. It seems to be foregone conclusion that he is gone. The problem that the fans are having is exactly what you are pointing out. The President (White) is apparently going to be in complete charge of the new hire and his football acumen leaves a lot to be desired.

We shall see.

UA's rumor mill seems just as scattered as ours. Who outside the insiders really knows anything?

For a short time (as young Clark Kent/Superboy), he was a LB for Smallville High. Scored too many TDs too easily. Raised suspicions. Pa Kent made him quit playing but he did stay on the sidelines as the waterboy.

We don't want SUPERMAN as a coach Stallion. We will just let you coach instead but you will need to give SUPERMAN a Scholarship. You can just play him both ways and move him around alittle bit on the field. We would win a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP four years in a row !!!

Superman could be a good hire, we would save money in clothing... he would be providing his own suit and it wouldnt have to change that much...except for all of the changes to red and blue that we run through. He could also keep the S or maybe just change it to a Mustang.

I can't believe Rivals has over looked this SUPERMAN guy ? I mean he could easily be their first 500 Star at all positions !

"SMU Fans perception of its entitlement to a Big Splash

Stallion likes to be the guy at the door telling people that are trying to do the unconventional "IT CANT BE DONE!".

Of course people like Herb Kelleher, Jerry Jones, Bill Gates, Ross Perot, and athletic directors that have started from the botton and rose to the top always have had to wade through doomsayers. Yes people laughed at them too. People are always going to tell you "hey its always been this way, lower your expectations". Luckily Orsini doesn't have the defeatist "woe is me" attitude and says SMU will be a Top 25 program. I guess we'll see who is right!

Where is Smallville? Is that 3A? Does this Superman have a good relationship with Texas HS coaches?

Let's do it...Orsini v Stallion. My money's on Orsini. What are the stakes? Orsini has to post sunshine for 6 mos if SMU becomes top 35ish in 5 years?

offer totally retractable in all 50 states
