Wills Leads Women's Basketball To Tough Road Win
Sophomore posts second straight double-double
Nov. 13, 2007
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (SMU) - Sophomore forward Delisha Wills scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the SMU women's basketball team to a hard-fought road win over the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 74-70, at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.
The Mustangs (1-1) almost got another double-double from senior post Janielle Dodds, who scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
SMU jumped out to a 34-24 halftime lead after hitting 4-of-6 three pointers before the intermission. SMU also hit all four free throws before halftime, while TAMU-CC didn't earn a single trip to the line.
Free throws proved crucial in the outcome. Wills and Dodds took all 16 SMU free throws on the night, making 15. The Mustangs also turned up the defensive pressure in the second half. TAMU-CC shot better than 55 percent in the second half, after hitting less than 31 percent of its shots in the first, but the Mustangs blocked eight shots in the game.
The Mustangs return to Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m. next Tuesday against the crosstown rival TCU Horned Frogs (1-1). For ticket information and to see a complete schedule, log on to SMUMustangs.com.
