Can we call him Houston McNutt......just sounds better. He would be like the market, all over the freakin' place, so...exciting? Can recruit and motivate, but sort of a deer in the headlights guy to me, with a quasi mediocre SEC record, but hey, we are taliing about SMU and C-USA....Welcome on board Coach McNutt.

Agree. if SMU wants to stay in CUSA and win now and then hire Dirk Koetter. If they can dominate CUSA and move into the national spotlight again they can move to a better conference. They can expand the stadium. I think it was built to be enlarged to around 45,000. I think the Pack 10 requires 40,000. I hope the powers that be have some understanding that this can not be an ok coach. If that is all that they want give PB an extension. I think the Univ. of AZ has around a 50,000 seat stadium. ASU around 75,000. I do think they will end up with a Bowden or someone of his/their stature.

One more comment, at least for now. Someone must have done a great sales job to get SMU on national TV so much this yr. Something like 8-9x. Maybe that person should be in charge of recruiting. They should be given a raise.

Exposure was good but national TV I believe was twice, ESPN and ESPN 2. The rest were local Dallas feeds, definitely not national. And we lost all of them so I do not know if the adage of any publicity is good publicity is good or not.

sorry to correct you mrydel, but there were more national games (I ordered CSTV so that I could see most of the games here in NC.) TCU game, USM, and others.

You are correct. I forgot CSTV (although I have it) since so many people do not have access or pay to receive it. I was thinking of the Channel 21 Dallas games that I can not get in any manner in Arkansas. Mea Culpa. Either way, I liked the exposure but wish we could have performed better.

I mentioned SMU hiring Nutt to an Arkansas fan this morning and his comment was "Well, that will be a good fit for Nutt as SMU won't mind him losing so many games"

Houston is very motivational, a great recruiter and inroads not only into Texas but also Arkansas where we have never done much recruiting. It is my opinion that the level of play in the SEC is slightly higher than CUSA so I think he could handle it from a W-L status. I just believe his ego is a little too big to come to SMU. He is being kind of run off from UA but he thinks that is their mistake not his fault. It will be interesting to see how his situation pans out. I would not be surprised if UA did not do to Nutt what Orsini and SMU did with Bennett. Offer to keep him one more year but have some specific performance clauses. If that is the case, I think Houston would resign.

SMU should be able to do much better than Nutt. I can only hope they do. Again, SMU should/can recruit nationally. Stated this before, SMU has invested how much$ since the DP. Probably 100-150 million$. They got 1 winning season for that. So they are saying around 9 millionfor a new coach. Well 9m$ is alot of $ but may not be enough. Get a big time hire even if it costs 20m$. It will be some of the smartest $ SMU has spent in a long time. This hire needs to be thought of as an invesment.

there isn't one coach out there that everyone would like. so we just need to be happy with whoever they hire and support him. orsini has a good track record of hiring a coach that will make them competitive in a short time. let orsini make his decision and let's go from there.
