I don't see how the writing on the wall could possibly be any clearer than it is already.

What does it tell you when the president of SMU and the league commissioner from C-USA are openly discussing this with the media? Surely you don't believe that they are merely "thinking out loud." It's better for them to drag it out slightly, as to generate some pub over it.

Look.. . . . .the C-USA presidents have already approved a bid to invite SMU. Now the last step is for SMU to agree to pay the entrance fee. And that, as well, has probably already been agreed to, otherwise we wouldn't be reading about any of this in the papers.

The hold up on an official invitation depends upon the BE formally inviting C-USA teams to join the BE and create openings in the C-USA to be filled. Since the BE plans to wait until November to act, the C-USA can only make exploratory contacts. We are lead to belive what will happen next, but there can not be a confirmation of it until the other moves have been made. At least the C-USA is being as public as possible about their intentions. I still wonder what the WAC will do to compensate for the defections of Tulsa, Rice and SMU.

According to a story in Friday's DMN, the bid could be another month away. I think the writing on the wall also is clear, as TC said, but it looked clear last time, too, and we were left trying to put a positive spin on staying in the WAC.

It was nowhere near as clear then as it is now. We were under investigation at the time also. So cut the crap.

The small headline in our local paper was that Marshall was being extended an invitation from CUSA. Later in the article it mentioned SMU and unnoteworthies. Who would have ever thought that SMU would be an afterthought to Marshall in athletics. What a sad commentary on the depths we have let SMU fall to. Maybe with reforms by the various governing bodies next spring and the loosening of our own standards, the gap will close between SMU and sports schools.
