Yes, you should probably stay home until things are better and then come back to support the team.
Thanks to some unknown person who also did not renew their season tickets, I was able to upgrade mine. And I plan to keep them!

You guys are nuts if you think there's not plenty of talent on this team. If you go to the games, you get to see the team improve in front of your very eyes. The thing they have that previous players lacked is a winner's attitude. These guys are all incredibly talented, and they have a winner's attitude--they just need some work on the fundamentals. For all of you who poo-pooed the cupcake schedule, now you know why Doh did it......he did it so the team could gel and learn together....class in session. I guarantee you this team will be very very exciting to watch soon.

Thanks Mrs. Doherty. Are you the team mom? Gimme a break about the winners attitude. Even Doh would call that bunk based his post game comments last night. Maybe these guys are great, but no one can get routed by Centernary by 30 in the first half and be granted anything.

Didn't Michigan have a team that had 5 freshmen that received significant playing time a few years back? Did that team start 0-3 to NAIA teams?

but bill, I seem to recall Michigan handling all their business and then some, all the way to the national title game. Our freshman need to beat Centenary. Or Alabama State. Or Southern. There is just no rationalizing that.

There really is no excuse for losing to Centenary. Im an alum of both SMU and Centenary and have been going to Centenary basketball games for 20 years now (SMU football season ticket holder for 17 years and 'Nary hoops ticket holder just as long - I must have some kind of mental disorder). Centenary has had some decent teams but there is no way a school like Centenary, even though they are Division I, should be able to play with a Doherty coached SMU team.
Centenary lost their exhibition game to an NAIA school - LSU-Shreveport a week or so ago. Their coach said at the time that he used the game to work out his player rotations before the season started. I will, right now, give Doherty the benefit of the doubt that he is using these cupcakes to give his players maximum court time experience.
But if this is a sign of things to come I'm feeling that the hiring of Doherty is more style and less substance.

You just missed Centenary in it's heyday, when they had Robert Parrish and Chief Cherokee Rhone (real name, I swear). I used to lift weights with Chief in the summer. If he hadnt blown out his knee he would have been another Centenary alum in the NBA.
I cant support the maximum time theory. If you look at the Centenary box score, the upperclassmen got the bulk of the playing time. Bamba, Killen and Roberts all played 34 minutes. Malone is getting plenty of minutes (26 against Centenary), and Walker is playing a fair bit (23), but Kwiatkowski is getting about 90 seconds a game, if he isnt going to play any more than that he should have been redshirted. Rhodes played extended minutes against Bama State. but only 4 against Centenary. Dia played just 14 minutes against Centenary, compared to 20 minutes for Ritter, who replaced him in the starting 5. Harp played 10 minutes, which is his average. To me that doesnt say he's giving the young guys extra minutes, they're playing the minutes they have to, because their isnt anyone else to put in. Three upperclassmen played almost the entire game.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

I saw both Parish and Cherokee play, albeit when I was much younger. And I have done some volunteer work with Cherokee in the past few years doing work for the Juvenile Justice Center in Shreveport.

No doubt. I've been to 2 of TCU's first 3 home games. There were small crowds and most TCU fans have little hope for this team. That being said, we beat our 3 cupcakes to date by an average of 20+ (including a 27 pt win over Rice). For SMU to get routed by 3 cupcakes at home is almost unfathomable. It would be equal to the football team (as bad as it has been this year) losing to Texas State, Abilene Christian and Sam Houston State to start the season. I am stunned by the performance of the basketball team.

I have to admit I am stunned at the 0-3 start as well especially since the games were really not that close. We can't shoot and we can't play defense. I hope Doh has a solution but I am not optimistic.

I predicted that this would be an ugly year and that we would be dangerous later on. But few listened. Doh had an 8 win season his second season at UNC with an all freshman team. His next year he had a winning season and almost won the ACC tournament before being forced out. He also had a few players transfer out who didn't cut the mustard. This team will improve, but it will take time. We had a good class this year, if we can repeat that next year, we'll steadily improve the product.

I guess it wouldn't be so surprising if the games were close but it sounds like all 3 of these were not even competitive. TCU was really bad last year but we didn't get beat by 20+ at home to SWAC schools. I hope it gets better soon...

I have been to all home football and basketball games this year. I don't like losing either. But with the basketball team's youth, I can see improvement. Like some have said, there is the lack of confidence but that will come with games under our belt. Matt knew it was going to be difficult and so did we. We will continue to improve as the year goes on and I'll be there for all games home and some out of town. I am a supporter of the coach, team and university. Go Mustangs!!!
