SMU Basketball-probably one of the only sites in the country where there isn't a single post on a fan board about signing date. I'll give you a little info. Rivals rated classes of major conferences and the Top 20 of Mid majors. SMU wasn't in the Top 20 of mid majors. CUSA Classes in the Mid Major Top 20 were Memphis at 6 and UTEP at 18. The best CUSA Recruits were:

Conference USA
Point guard: Damier Pitts, Marshall
Shooting guard: Jason Jones, UTEP
Small forward: Armond Battle, Tulsa
Power forward: Angel Garcia, Memphis
Center: Chano Rashiduddin, UTEP

Is Frank Otis the only recruit with other offers and those are from Boise St., Colorado St., Murray St., and Cal Poly?

LA Mustang / XtC / anyone else who follows BB closely...how is this class stacking up versus last years' or even a typical Dement class?

Or as I like to say...this class * 4 gets you what....

I was expecting a little more given last years' recruits + the facilities improvements.

Otis is a blood and guts type player, hard nose and fierce. He tries to make up for what he lacks in height with tenacity and physicality. Height, or lack of it, is his drawback, he's a bit short for a D1 power forward. If he were 4 inches taller, alot of schools would be knocking on his door. But he isnt 4 inches taller, he's about 6'5", and not going to grow.

Clark is a good athlete and an impressive physical specimen, but he doesnt have very impressive stats. He isnt very productive. And, as I mentioned in another thread, I think his commitment is soft. I wont be surprised if he doesnt sign.

The other 2 guys I cant tell you much that you wouldnt find in a Google search. I havent seen them play. They both come from perenially strong high school programs. They arent the stars on their respective teams, but they are important contributors. I dont know of any other offers, but both are good enough that other schools should have had some mild interest. If I recall Haynes had surgery on his hand over the summer, and missed the majority of the summer evaluation period. Some schools may have been waiting to see how the hand healed.

To compare them to past classes, frankly they are very similar to the class they are replacing, Killen, Ritter and Roberts. Roberts was a very highly recruited player, but has been injury prone during his years at SMU, and injuries have kept him from reaching his potential. Killen was recruited by UNT and Louisiana Tech. He has played regular minutes and contributed since his freshman year, and now developed into a solid player, and leader. Again, and this is important, I havent seen them play. But from what little I know they seem comparable to the current senior class.

Hope this helped

Maybe I am not understanding, but didn't you just make a post in a thread specifically about signing day? There is also one in the B-Ball forum. Seems like their are posts on signing day to me.

Hopefully, as opposed to a weak signing.

Thanks XtC, it does. And I think it explains, to a degree, the lack of BB posting Hoop Fan was talking about earlier.

A team full of Killen/Ritter/Roberts will not go dancing to the NCAAs or the NIT.

A team full of Killen/Ritter/Roberts can not even compete in C-USA.

This reminds me of the year after BHOP. I was expecting some recruiting momentum that simply didn't happen.

For Doherty being a supposedly awesome recruiter this appears to be a weak class

If you believe the services, it wasn't. Hard to make out why this group looks so awful.

BTW, I have heard we have two of the four signed including the PG out of California. Unknown about the other two.

Has Frank Otis signed? With 3 stars he looks like the star of the class!

Don't know. I've just heard this third-hand but thought I'd throw it out there.

Well, its not really a class at all until someone signs, and as of yesterday that hadnt occurred. Last day of this signing period is Wednesday, and I expect to have at least of couple of scholarships to carry over until Spring. The bright side is that with those 'ships open, perhaps we can pursue some JC players. That's the best way I can spin it.

After this week of "character building" practices, we may have a couple more scholarships available after the season ends............
