Ready or not they got to play this year. There's little else. It's going to be a painfully long rebuilding process this year and next. The cupboard was as bare as it gets when Doh came in and he chose to rebuild with freshmen exclusively. And very few frosh are ready to play right off the bat-very few. A juco or 2 would have helped win a couple more games but how would that benefit us in the long run? Patience everyone-give Doh time.

This is the knock on Doh from NC. That he could get talent, but they underperformed. The way I view it, is that we will get better as these guys meld to one another. I think by February, this will be a very dangerous team to face. When Doh's team was underperforming at UNC and the wolves were barking, they had a rather mediocre regular season and went on a run through the ACC tourney that was impressive. This is his first season with his guys, let's let them grow together.

The real knock on Doh was his lack of program control, behind the scenes. He was their 4th or 5th choice in that search and wasn't ready for the politics of the job. He did a remarkable job changing the direction of that initial recruiting class from the guys Gut had focused on. That said, Doh lost his players, parents threatened transfers in mass, and even Dean Smith turned on him. He pretty much was a nervous breakdown coaching UNC.

I find it remarkable that we won't look at a coach w/some baggage in football, but regard Doh as a squeaky clean hire in hoops.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones
