Who the hellwould come here to coach. We think Bowden will come to a school that does not want football in the first place. Not with his coaching backgroud and family tradition. Coaching is a fraternity people. The coaches across the nation talk to each other daily. This is a dead end job for most coaches except someone like Coach K, who will be run out of UL at the end of the season. He will have no option but to come to SMU. Thank God, because he can win in CUSA and with little talent, but it will take him 3-5 years, so sit back and hang on. It is going to be a long ride.
Its only natural for all us homers to think this is a great sitution for a great coach. You are right as much as it hurts to admit it.
As time has passed more & more names have been speculated. However, one of the first names mentioned was Glen Mason. That is a realistic hire. Still holding out hope for Barnett.
Can't see Mason or Barnett coming to SMU. Too many other options at schools that actcually want football. Coach K is a good fit, but we will have to pay him more than what he is worth. The good coaches do not coach only for money, they want to win.
Coaches are human - nothing more. They want to win because they get to be loved on and make more money.
We have upped our dough. A small but influential group wants competitive football at SMU and they will buy it the right way this time, but they will buy it. Oh, and big daddy is an idiot.
Why the negativity? How did your son end up here with your blatantly negative attitudes? I understand that your frustrated... but your son had other options. Better options. But he came here... was it against your wishes? If not you have to see some upside. And speaking of upside and your son... while we as fans are frustrated as heck with your sons fumbling and trying to do to much, he's only a sophomore and an impact player. Wouldn't you say that having an incumbent QB with clear talent is an upside? Again, he's a sophomore... and has his issues, but they are correctable, and withing the fabric of a team, even if his "I have to do everything" attitude may have rubbed teammates the wrong way, it's not too late to fix that. Pleas understand that I am not taking this as an opportunity to rip your son, or you in general. What I am "ripping", more questioning is the following - why, you of all people have no hope? Why you see nothing of value in the program? Why you do not believe that Orsini has what it takes to make a difference here? Hey, we're all angry about losing... but a team is about EVERYONE pulling together, you seem to deliberately want to isolate yourself. C'mon, my friend, pull for good things to haoppen. And hey, if we bring in Darryl Dickey as coach, THEN come on here and blow a gasket. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
What about his "I am Samuel Willis, Justin Willis's father" post? And then there was a post from more than a year ago that read something to the tune of "when he was a kid, [on the practice field] I yelled at him, blah, blah, blah" that was later, if I recall correctly, edited to read something like, "when he was a kid, [on the practice field] his father yelled at him, blah, blah, blah". Maybe it was never edited and I just misunderstood way back when. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
Anyway, went back and reread/continued on reading that thread... guess you're right - which is a relief.

I will answer you paragraph by paragraph: 1. JWill wanted to play QB in college. At 6'1" (?) 200lbs this was the best fit. No reason to go 300 or 3000 miles across the country to play. If you are good enough they will find you. Plus, his parents wanted him to have a great education. Nothing else to say about that. SMU is the best! 2. Fans are just what they are fans. They go round and round. Fumbling and such things are a part of the game, but losing is contagious. There are plenty of fans stricken with the losing virus, so they lash out at everything that is easy. We have been fumbling and losing for 20 years. How can you do too much on the football field, or any job? You can never do too much? 3. We have upside on this team. JWill, Sanders, Rhodes, Givens, Handy, Zimmerman. I could go on forever..... 4. JWill does not have issues! He made several mistakes this year, along with everybody that suited up, including coaches. Missed tackles, missed blockes, dropped balls, fumbles, bad play calling. Yes, it is a team. The "I have to do everything" was not his idea. He does not call the plays or block for himself. Now that would be "I have to do everything". He would love not to have a concussion, tweaked groin, busted up hand, wouldn't you think? He is just one of several players laying on the line every week. 5. You can rip me all you want, and I am quite sure JWill and his parents could care less. He is use to it. First year at Denton Ryan, they damn near booed him in a lose to Ennis. Well the rest is history! The players have lost hope because they see what is going on from the inside out. The only issue is they cannot and will not say the things I am saying. 6. Losing is a part of the game. That is not an issue. "But a team is about everyone pulling together". That includes playes, coaches and the admin. We are missing a vital part of this equation. Whether Orsini can do it is yet to be detemined. But history shows that it is bigger than Orsini. The culture needs to change! 7. I never isolated myself. My post was in reference to the coaching search, nothing else. You isolated me, or threw me under the bus, as well as threw JWill under the bus. I keep asking why that is happening, but nobody answeres me? There is an underlying issue here that nobody wants to talk about. I am hoping for the best. For people like you and me, but mainly for the hundreds of athletes that will follow JWill and others. Sorry, to everybody for being so long.
Hey! There is a SMU Athletics job opening! That must mean it is time for "Who on earth would take this awful, awful job?!?!?!"
One would think that it was time to stop asking this stupid, stupid question.
You think? This board cleared up the "who is JWills father thing"? Sound more like Maury Povich. I hope this board can clear up why we continue to suck in the big two sports we do play. That should be a topic of discussion until we go to a bowl and/or get to a post season BB tourney.
Not that it really makes a rat's [deleted] difference, but for accuracy's sake, we didn't play football for two years, thus we have only been losing for 18 years minus one winning season and one 6-6 season. Like I said, it doesn't make a rat's [deleted] difference, but I'm tired of this we have been losing for 20 years bs.
Re: Who the hell
What if you're getting: (1) a pay raise and no state tax (2) a chance to coach in a cool city that you have a positive history in and a lot of friends (3) a chance to resurrect a program at a school that hasn't won in 20 years (4) one of the most talent-rich backyards in America from which to recruit For some coaches, this would seem attractive. Hopefully it is for one in particular.
PK, not that it really makes a rat's [deleted] difference to me either... but SMU has now been playing for 19 years since the DP. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
