I don't care if you are Willis's stepfather, godfather or babydaddy, if you think he could not have played any better this year then you must think he really sucks and are not much of a friend to him. His friend jtstang knows he can do better and must.

ohhhh! nevermind, smu is awesome at football now that you've cleared that up. if we had 2 more losing seasons then i'd say our program is in trouble but you have definitely changed my mind.

Coaching is a fraternity people. The coaches across the nation talk to each other daily. This is a dead end job for most coaches except someone like Coach K, who will be run out of UL at the end of the season. He will have no option but to come to SMU. Thank God, because he can win in CUSA and with little talent, but it will take him 3-5 years, so sit back and hang on. It is going to be a long ride.

What if you're getting:
(1) a pay raise and no state tax
(2) a chance to coach in a cool city that you have a positive history in and a lot of friends
(3) a chance to resurrect a program at a school that hasn't won in 20 years
(4) one of the most talent-rich backyards in America from which to recruit

For some coaches, this would seem attractive. Hopefully it is for one in particular.

These are good points, but the HC will still have to deal with the decision makers who continue to crush #3 and #4 of your points. This will take some time to change. If it was just about recruiting and winning.............

This is the post of the year! We are 1-10! Hell yes he could have played better, along with the rest of the team. Coaches could have coached better. Calm down jt.

Read my post. I never said he could not have played better. He made mistakes like every player on the team that played. There is improvements to be made. If we were 9-2 JWill would tell you there are improvements to be made. Continuing to get better is what it is all about. We are talking about 18, 19 and 20 year old. Damn right, they all have some work to do.

Sounds like we finally agree on something. Everybody must improve. The reason the focus has been on Willis this year is two-fold. First he's the QB, the highest profile position on the team. Second, he had a phenomenal freshman year. Now, given the expectations generated by the second item, the first item dictates that everyone will focus on his drop-off, right or wrong.

Having said that, you are right, everybody has to play better to get this perpetual clog out of the toilet.

The more accurate statement is we have not been big-time winners in any given season the past 20 years!

WE agree on most things. I just have a hard time throwing a 20 year under the bus after every loss, or putting him up on a pedestal when we win. I feel that is the biggest issue with the JWill fans. They feel let down on a season with so much promise, so they lash out at the obvious. I never felt we could win more than 4 games this year. Receivers are too small, running game continues to be suspect and defense was gonna be suspect. Last season JWill lead the team in rushing, if you do not count the sackes. This season goes to show you how good Bobby Chase and Rey P. actually were, along with the big tightend we never used. Oh how we miss Brandon Bonds, J Rogers and the others. We are just not that good.

All my post are coherent. They just tend to offend some people, because the truth hurts.

Does anyone notice a difference in this post versus Bigdaddy's typical posts?

I hadn't read the post yet about Bigdaddy's post being coherent. It is coherent which is different. Hmmm...must be JWill's dad this time instead of the "other" Bigdaddy.

Forgot something. You cannot have a short QB and short Receivers. You wonder why we never throw the ball over the middle. JWill cannot see the little short receivers and they cannot see him. Rey and Bobby were easy, 6'3"-6'4". That opened up the middle and sidellines for Sanders. Sanders and JWill should go find Bobby and Rey and tell them thanks for a great freshman season. This recruiting crap is a mess. The young TE, (cannot think of name) is going to be great for this team. Please stay healthy! He has promise.
