Top 10: Boise State

Postby Letterman » Fri Oct 17, 2003 4:41 pm

From the home office, High on the Hilltop, the Top 10 things overheard at the SMU/Boise State game:

10. All-knowing SMU fan, explaining to his date why Bronco players line up and prepare for a game the way they do: "Boise will be Boise"

9. Boise State WR Tim Gilligan: "next person to refer to a game as a 'three-hour tour' gets hits in the head with a coconut … and no, I do NOT refer to Coach Hawkins as 'the Skipper'!"

8. Boise State PK Tyler Jones, when he notices that his regular holder has been replaced as he lines up for a game-tying field goal in the game's waning seconds: "Why are you wearing a headset and a Chicago Cubs jacket on the field?"

7. SMU OT Sterling Harris, before he lines up for the first play against Boise State LDE Julius Roberts: "You were great in 'Pretty Woman,' but just between you and me, you've looked a little rough around the edges since 'Erin Brockovich' "

6. Boise State FS Wes Nurse, before making a tackle: "This won't hurt at all … you won't feel a thing … try to get some sleep"

5. Boise State LT Daryn Colledge, on his plans after college: "I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure my next shirt will say 'JOB' across the back"

4. Boise State RB David Mickell: "uh, Coach? Why did SMU name their defense with 5 DBs after me?"

3. SMU head coach Phil Bennett, on Boise State DT Paul Allen: "So that's how they get around NCAA rules -- they sign the Microsoft co-founder, and he can pay any player he wants, because he's not an alum? I always wondered how they got players to actually go to Boise"

2. SMU defensive coordinator Jim Gush to DE Don Ieremia-Stansbury: "Imagine Ryan Dinwiddie is Don Zimmer … go 'Pedro Martinez' on that fat old guy."

And the #1 thing overheard at the SMU/Boise State game this weekend:

1. Boise State QB Ryan Dinwiddie: "Guys, check out the turf -- it's green instead of blue! Weird...."

Our RB is MIKEll not MICKell.

Funny stuff though (even though I didnt get some SMU references).

Looking forward to a injury free game tomorrow. And good luck in C-USA.

Well, yeah, but since we haven't played you before, I'm not overly familiar with your team. I knew how to pronounce it -- a bit of a reach, I admit!

Bingo, bsubroncman -- injury-free. (And of course, hoping for an upset of massive proportions....) Thanks for the good wishes. Hope we cross paths again down the road. Best of luck to Boise State - after tomorrow, of course!

I'm afraid that oh-so-crazy green turf at Ford Stadium didn't phase Boise too much.

I'm afraid that I had to adjust my television set so that the field was a little more blue--I can't stand that green stuff you guys call a football field. Indeed, WIERD!

Very impressive performance by your guys, BoyCBronk. Good luck the rest of the way.
