Second a coach would see facilities and traditions that date back a long time prior to the last 20 years. Third, a coach with cojones would see that he would look like the greatest coach in America if he merely had a winning season in a relatively weak conference. That's 7-5. Most coaches have confidence in themselves that even with a team full of special ed projects they can have a winning season. So, really SMU is the ideal job to repair your resume so that you can move on to bigger and better things. Many of the names mentioned are great coaches who need to put some distance with their most recent past.

You lost me with the tradition thing. There is no tradition at SMU. Nobody looks back that far. That was during a time when we did not wear helmets and the OL weighed 220 lbs. The HC's coaching today were in grade school and knew nothing of SMU. There is no tradition here! There is a history here that includes paying players, losing and some other things I will not mention. Your post was going good until you mentioned tradition. Most coaches with a past would rather be an assistant at the NFL level than come to SMU. Coaching is a fraternity. They have no problem getting jobs that will pay what we are offering. We need to offer something that outlines our committment to winning, and I just don't see that.

I'm sorry that you don't think there's a tradition at SMU. We have had a Heisman winner, two National Championships, many players go to the NFL including several in the Hall of Fame (who did not wear leather helmets by the way), the first African American scholarship football player in SWC history, and yes, a great program for over 70 years. I would hope that we could start a new tradition of winning with our new coach. And all of the coaches named most if not all probably knew of SMU as a powerhouse while they were playing college football.

Not that it really makes a rat's [deleted] difference, but for accuracy's sake, we didn't play football for two years, thus we have only been losing for 18 years minus one winning season and one 6-6 season. Like I said, it doesn't make a rat's [deleted] difference, but I'm tired of this we have been losing for 20 years bs.

Read my post. I never said he could not have played better. He made mistakes like every player on the team that played. There is improvements to be made. If we were 9-2 JWill would tell you there are improvements to be made. Continuing to get better is what it is all about. We are talking about 18, 19 and 20 year old. Damn right, they all have some work to do.

Forgot something. You cannot have a short QB and short Receivers. You wonder why we never throw the ball over the middle. JWill cannot see the little short receivers and they cannot see him. Rey and Bobby were easy, 6'3"-6'4". That opened up the middle and sidellines for Sanders. Sanders and JWill should go find Bobby and Rey and tell them thanks for a great freshman season. This recruiting crap is a mess. The young TE, (cannot think of name) is going to be great for this team. Please stay healthy! He has promise.

The definition of tradition is the handing down of knowkledge, beliefs, customs, or the like from one generation to another.
