We have ONE receiver

Postby Arkpony » Sat Oct 18, 2003 1:41 pm

Bartel is 0 for 6 passing. Has he thrown to ANYONE but Rushbrook???? Another incompetent showing by the offense. We're down 10-0 first Q

I'm home not feeling well and got up to see what was being said. I am thinking the same thing. By now it is known Rushbrook is Bartels favorite receiver. Don't they think he will be covered well. This is not making me feel any better.

I watched the 1st half and have to go to a baby shower tonight - UGH.

I am a big fan but it really find it difficult to watch this mess. We are so inept on offense it's not even funny. I saw KK break 1 play and we got a 1st down on penalties.

The 98 yd pass play was really embarrassing!

Still hanging in. Starting to open it up some late in the 3rd. If only we would have done this in the 1st quarter I think the score would be different.

Why did burn a scholarship on Pellerin if we aren't going to throw to him. Cleveland looked decent today. He was about it. I don't understand what has happened to Bartel this year. Last year I saw him look off the defensive back and then throw to the open receiver. This year he focuses like a laser, without looking off the back making it much easier for the defensive back to make the play. Of course, there is NO blocking so I can see how this would change his style of play. Now its, apparently to late for him as Bennett is burning Phillips redshirt.

Hope you're feeling better, Joyous. For what it's worth, Chris had a couple of nice catches, including one for 21 yards.

Jay'Mond Cleveland showed nice escapability on two of his three receptions.

One of Comet's catches was great - pulled it down in double coverage, and took a big hit. He's always been tough as nails. I know Rushbrook has caught 3 touchdowns this year, and Blake Warren has showed some things, but to me, Comet, Cleveland and Pellerin should be on the field on every play. Rushbrook is real tough and has a role in the offense. Warren can really make people miss, but the 30-yard jumpballs aren't going to work with a WR who's 5'7" (if that).

Ponymon hit the nail on the head - if we're not going to throw to Pellerin, we shouldn't have burned his redshirt. That guy can play, and he has great size. Those of us who watched the San Jose State game on TV saw him not only make a great catch on TV, but he also used his strength to shield a DB away from him so only he could make the catch. We need to get balls thrown to him and to Cleveland and let them make some plays, since we burned their redshirts.

Haha guys, its up to Bartel if he's going to throw it to Pellerin. He's not, because he pretty much only zeroes in on Rushbrook and then overthrows him anyway.

While many of us - myself included - have complained about the KK-KK-KK-punt play calling, I'm more concerned with the desire to throw downfield to Rushbrook and Warren. They're both talented - I don't think there's any debate about that. But until they can get separation like the Boise State WRs did, they need to be running crossing routes and WR screens. Look at Comet yesterday. Even though he looks like his foot might still be hurting him, he twice found a seam in the defense and made nice catches. If we're going to go downfield with the ball, we need to work Comet back into the offense more, and use bigger guys like Pellerin, Cleveland or even Cedric Vinson (where has he been?) They have the size necessary to compete for high balls. Rushbrook and Warren - for all their talent - don't have the size to make those plays.
