It's about time...so what is up with all of the out of state players? I know I haven't liked Bennett's recruiting philosophy, but Doh is taking it in the other direction.

What is the implication of so many of out of state recruiting? Is Doh able to sell SMU to players from across the country, or is no one that really knows about SMU interested in coming here?

If these kids are traveling this far to play, they are class c or d players maybe? One kid played at a class a school. Damn, here we go again.

Doesn't Otis have a three-star rating?

It might be because SMU is considered one step ahead of a toxic nuclear waste site to recruits from Texas.............

we started to change that in the late 90s and could have really changed it with Tubbs, but not surprisingly we gave him no tools to work with by way of facilities etc. Too bad SMU doesn't have the vision and foresight to make moves proactively. Did we really need Doh to show up with a hanky in his suit pocket to convince us to get a practice facility built?

that's a sharp looking hanky, though. I do think he'd be somewhat more imitating with a carnation, though. A single red carnation.

Actually, a couple come from strong programs. I dont think anyone will deny that Westchester is always strong. Palmdale has a couple of other D-1 prospects on their roster, and plays in a tough conference. Orchard Lake St. Mary's is a small private school but they dominate the Catholic League, and usually send 1-2 players to D1 schools every year. Kalin Lucas was their star last year, and is now starting as a freshman at Michigan State.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Nobody who knows anything about SMU would play here unless they had no choice. I think Doh is right in going after foreigners who don't know better.

You guys are a tough crowd. We get a very very good crop of recruits for the second consecutive year in basketball. And what comes back, "they weren't from Texas". Lets get one thing straight, for each great Texas player there are three in Chicago. For each great Texas player there are three in New York. For each great Texas player there are three in L.A. Ditto for Oakland and Detroit. If you're hungry you go where the food is. If we start winning, kids will be knocking down our doors to come to SMU. Before Coach K started winning at Duke, it was the laughing stock of the ACC. Now, if Coach K calls you and says he wants you to come to Duke, you schedule a visit. Same thing with Georgetown before John Thompson put it on the map. So, let Doh build a winning program first, then we can have the luxury of being picky.

we know you are a fan of east coast talent. I think we all want top 150 players from wherever we can get them. The distinction comes after that. If you are recruiting top 500 talent, you dont need to go to California to get it. How about showing some loyalty to the power programs in the Metroplex from whom you would like some loyalty? When SOC or Kimball has a top 50 player in the near future, it might help you get a foot in the door if you gave the lesser D-1 prospects they have had the time of day over the years. Thats called building bridges and building a program. You don't build bridges by going to South Dallas once and awhile and talking a good game.
