His final weeks as a head football coach were pretty bad.

There were losses, there was meddling by big-money boosters and assorted back-stabbing, and things were just as nasty as SEC football behind closed doors can get.

But Terry Bowden survived the nasty ending to his career as the head coach at Auburn and has had quite a nice gig in radio and TV since then.

Now, he's ready to get back into the grind and potential messes. And he'll be a better coach, he said Monday night at the Macon Touchdown Club.

If anything, he'll be a more wired coach. Bowden has turned into something of a tech geek.

"Because I've spent nine years in the media, I'm Internet savvy," he said. "I'm Blackberry savvy, I'm laptop savvy. My goal is to go into a program, my kids, every one of them will have Blackberrys and laptops. We will be so information-savvy. Not only that, but video."

Tommy may be two years older, but apparently Terry really is Big Brother.

"If my player misses his weight routine in the morning," Bowden said, "it'll be on my Blackberry by 10 o'clock."

Bobby Bowden Expects Youngest Son To Return To Coaching

TALLAHASSEE - Wednesday marked the one-year anniversary of Jeff Bowden's resignation as Florida State's offensive coordinator.

Bowden stepped down three days after a 30-0 loss to Wake Forest left the Noles 5-5, agreeing to a severance package worth $537,500 over a five-year period. He coached the final two regular-season games and FSU's 44-27 victory against UCLA in the Emerald Bowl, but since that night in San Francisco, Bowden has rarely been seen around the program his father built into a national power.

FSU coach Bobby Bowden said Wednesday that his youngest son has been busy with other matters but that he expects Jeff to return to coaching next season.

"I think he is just waiting to see what breaks and see where he thinks he'd want to go,'' the elder Bowden said. "I haven't talked to him hardly any. He is staying at home and doing some work. I've been here and he's been there.''

One possible opportunity could be a reunion with his brother Terry Bowden, who is interested in returning to coaching after a 10-year broadcasting career. Jeff worked on Terry Bowden's staffs at Samford and Auburn.

I have been a huge Bowden supporter from day one.
In fact I have exchanged e-mails with his staff about the SMU job opening.
Bowden is a "wow".
Krag was a "better than Bennett".

Speaking of Bowden’s, Terry Bowden has been approached about the SMU coaching job and has put the Mustangs on hold as he sniffs around other potential opportunities.

Okay listen people: Terry Bowden has been out of coaching for nine years. He has won at two schools (Samford and Auburn) where it is okay to recruit players who cannot read, basically. How does this make him a "proven coach," given our current situation at SMU. Other than being the spawn of Bobby Bowden (and incidentally being a mid-season quitter) what makes him such a great fit for SMU, and what makes his supporters think he will succeed here, coaching the same players Bennett had. I would be interested to hear some opinions, saying something other than "he's a Bowden!"

Some Auburn friends of ours report that he is a great in-game coach. Boy, that would be a nice change...

Sometimes it just takes a different approach. I'm certainly not saying Bowden would turn SMU into a bowl team next year (I'm not sure there's a coach in America that could do that), but I think its worth a shot. I mean its not like some posters on here who are advocating we hire a coach who has won one game at North Texas State.

From people I've talked to, Coach Bowden has a brilliant knowledge of the game and would be an excellent team manager. He is a very impressive likeable energetic type person. He is also a great speaker and a great organizer. Perfect type guy for recruiting and selling SMU football. The Media love the guy. Terry Bowden is I think about as perfect of a hire for SMU NOW is they could find......Terry Bowden is the definition of a Head Football Coach and he is ready to PROVE it again. Former National Coach of the year..... The real question is, how can SMU turn down this chance if he is availiable ???
