Can we compete with anybody? It might be time to realize that SMU cannot compete in Division 1 football. What a select group we are in now as one of 3 winless teams in Division 1. The fact that we can only draw 3,000 - 5,000 people per game shows that SMU alumni really don't care what happens at Ford Stadium.
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Can we compete with anybody?PonySnob - Shut the **** up. kthanks. D1-AA is not a possibilty with our facilities and budget right now. Give up on your dream, wont you?
ANYWAY- What really bothered me about this last game is the fact that lately some people have been whining their tails off about how short our recivers are, yet Boise State's top recievers T.J. Acree, Jerry Smith, Tim Gilligan, and Lawrence Bady, are all between 5'9" and 5'11" Somehow, I think talent and offensive schemes have more to deal with our lack of success than height ever will. [ 10-19-2003, 05:20 AM: Message edited by: FloridaMustang ]
Re: Can we compete with anybody? We might give Fordham a good game even though they would be favored. I'm not sure about Colgate. They are pretty tough.
Re: Can we compete with anybody?Sorry to disappoint you, Ponysnob, and to take away your "I know more than you" platform, but we're going to beat Tulsa Saturday.
Re: Can we compete with anybody? Please do not bet real money on this game. Tulsa is not a bad team this year. They will beat us in Tulsa. Phillips will not be a factor. He may one day be a very good player. You can't expect him to do much in his first start. Everything else has stayed the same. We lose by 14 at least, maybe more. If I were in the Band I would stay home and study. Possibly go to a movie. Do something fun for a change.
Re: Can we compete with anybody? We were actually trying to go play for the team, but the Tulsa Athletics director wouldn't let us do it. It would have been an unofficial trip, like the one some of you might remember to Houston in 2000, but Tulsa wouldn't let us do it without an official director.
Cheezed me off. WHERE'S MY KETCHUP?!?!?!
Re: Can we compete with anybody?Probably for the best. The Runaway Jury is supposed to be a good movie. If you like the Beatles, Concert for George is great. Seeing Ringo and Paul together again was nice. Eric Clapton doing While My Guitar Gently Weeps is worth the price of admission. Go have a meal, see a movie. You'll save money, time and trouble.
Re: Can we compete with anybody? What's your point here? I don't know how long you've lived in Dallas, but people in this city won't support a team that loses every game by 40 points, much less one that does so against teams they've never heard of and/or care nothing about. Moving to Division II would not only kill most of what little local interest we already have, it would kill any chance of ever developing any kind of real fan following. As dismal as things have become, our only chance for a decent football future lies in taking a moderate competitive jump to C-USA and hoping things turn around from there.
Re: Can we compete with anybody?Normally, I agree with a lot that Nacho has to say. But as for this .... nobody expected much from Bartel in his first start last year against LaTech, either. GO MUSTANGS - BEAT TULSA! "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"
