How terrible is our defense?
Looking at the games this year...the fewest points any team scored against us was 21...and we lost that game by 14! I'm sure this doesn't come as any surprise to anyone but this is ridiculous

and that game you are refering to, TCU, our D only gave up 1 of those 3 TDs TCU had...
heres a quick stat break down of how our D has faired this year:
of the 58 TDs that have been scored on us, 4 of those came by way of INT and 2 by KR/PR
23 Pass TDs given up
29 Rush TDs given up
7 TDs were of 20-29 yds
4 TDs were of 30-39 yds
3 TDs were of 40-49 yds
3 TDs were of 50 or more yds (51, 77, 80)
D = BAD

...or if we had blitzers that could get to the QB. Yeah you know huh? SMU has zero pass-rush w/o blitzing-what are you going just let the QB sit back and take a nap back there. Our DLM have absolutely no ability to rush the passer especially after Muse went down. I think you are clueless if you think blitzing is the problem. Its called lack of talent. SMU is foced to blitz because of lack ofa pass rush from the DLM. There is no way anyone can dispute that FACT. Blitzing and putting pressure on the QB are an essential part of football.
We've had this conversation before, and I'm not an idiot. Obviously, lack of talent is the main issue, but that shouldn't keep PB from putting the players in the best spot to win. Since we have no pass rush, I'd rather see the opp QB have all day with 7 back in coverage than all day with 4 back in coverage.

Disagree. They battled injuries and they're young, but Youri Yenga and Jordan Johnson showed pass rushing ability without blitzing. They need to get better, and they need to get bigger and stronger, but they can rush the passer.Stallion wrote:...or if we had blitzers that could get to the QB. Yeah you know huh? You disagree with what? Jourdan is one of my favorite players-but he only played about 35 snaps in the whole season and got .5 sacks. Youri Yenga also played less than half the snaps and can out run some OT-but he only has 1.5 sacks and has other limitations such as taking on OTs who outweigh him by 100 pounds. SMU has to blitz in order to put pressure on the QB. You can't let a QB have all day to find WRs with our DBs. Take away Muse who has been out for some time and the DLM as a unit average about .7 sacks a game. That is why SMU must blitz.

I agree for the most part, although Carrington walking out on this team hurt more than first thought. And Muse injury closed the deal
My question is what were the coaches thinking with the players who graduated last year? Example: did they think Justin was going to play DE for 10 years? There was no one behind him being prepped to fill in this season.
