From what current band members have told me it looks as though they will not be going.

No. We were not funded by the university to go. About 30 of us, however, were going to make the trip ourselves at our own cost and play in the stands and have a good time supporting the mustangs, but when Tulsa found out a director would not be going, they told us they would not allow us to bring horns or anything.

In this case, I doubt it'd be an issue of money as far as getting the director to go.

Ok here's the story, since I was the one trying to make this happen...
I Called the Athletic Marketing Director and told him we'd be interested in bringing a Pep Band. He wasn't there so I left a message. Instead of calling me back, because since I'm a student I must not be responsible or know what the hell I'm doing, he called our director. The director said he didn't know I'd called, but he did know that we were planning the trip. That shot up a red flag in Tulsa's mind. They said no director, no band.
I think they thought we were just gonna show up and be completely unorganized and rowdy without a director. What they don't realize is that we would have done that with director.
I thought it was a load of crap, personally

BTW Peruna Ate My Rolex (Bob Hope), what do you think WOULD be the issue of getting Kehler or Tommy to go?

Well, Alex, what else can we do, we just found all this out like last week and now it's too late to convince the director to go. Nothing stops the Mustang Band. Several of us are still going, we just aren't allowed to bring instruments and play inside the stadium. What more can we do?

I don't get this thread at all. Why would anyone want to go see an 0-7 team play at Tulsa? If you bought me a ticket and an airline seat I wouldn't go. There are better things to do. Movie--7 dollars, Meal 10 dollars, not seeing SMU lose--priceless.

Alex -
Who the hell are you? You wanna do something about us going I have 2 suggestions for you. Call our director yourself and tell him you want us to go
214 SMU BAND
Also, start donating money to the band. The reason we don't go to a bunch of these games and aren't any bigger than we are is MONEY.
NOTHING STOPS THE MUSTANG BAND from being the Hub of SMU Spirit. Things like money and reality and rules will keep us from doing whatever thing some crackpot alum thinks we should do.

Also, NACHO
Do us all a favor and if you hate the mustangs so much, go find a better place to post. Not on Pony fans. Stay of the board if you're gonna be blatantly negative.

I'll take that under advisement Spaz.

I'm not negative. Sorry you took it that way. I don't hate the Ponies. I hate what SMU has done to them and by proxy the entire SMU community. I'm a born-again realist. Master of spin-control central, so to speak. This is the Sunshine Board. I'm here to speak the truth. One day you my thank me. You may not. I'm not into people liking me. I'm into the truth. If the truth upsets you then I'm probably doing something right. Keep the faith. I have bigger fish to fry.

Nacho....if SMU Football is such a horrible waste of time then explain to us why you spend your weekend hours posting on an SMU Football posting board?

That's pretty good. I've never had my own cartoon. Well I did once, but that's cool anyway. I'll try not to use any big words since you are undergrads.

Here's the thing. I own season tickets for football. This is the last time I will buy season tickets for any SMU sport. I stopped basketball season tickets before last season. I will not renew Mustang Club dues. This season I may go to a couple of basketball games, if the opponent interests me. I may go to one soccer game. Next football season I may go to one or two games. After that it is all over. SMU will be in my rearview mirror. So you see for me this is really the last hurrah. I have to get in some last licks. After this football season you will never hear from me again. Promise. Bear with me through the TCU football game. After that may sunshine be with you forever and ever, amen.
