Good Offensive Move

Postby RELATIVE-STANG » Sun Oct 19, 2003 2:48 pm

In the paper coach said Phillips gets the next five games, Meeks redshirt stays on and a junior college QB comes aboard next season. Also his states that the offense will have to change up a little. Good! If this means that the QB's can run now after a couple of reads. But don't just give him the keys with out a fight. Bring back the Mesquite QB and let them compete in practice. If you are going to let them read and react let them fight. Don't give anybody sole ownership of a position. Use your 5A talent, all of it. Also in practice don't put red shirts on the QB's. Let them go live with full contact. Fear is the best motivator Make The rest of this season a competition period instead of learning period.

Whoever makes the biggest plays in practice is the Playmaker.

in that case, why not use up more precious practice time, and let ALL of the former high school qb's on the team get rep's and compete for the job? I bet there is at least TWELVE on the team now, thats a great idea!!! Better idea yet, why waste these great ideas of yours on us...just take them to Phil Bennett.

Why do most of you all think Practice makes perfect. Yea its ture that players need to get good practices in but come man we need Play Makers. Most of these players have been playing football all of they're lives. They can get ready in a weeks time. I would rather see a big TD run on a busted play at this point then more of this stuff SMU has been practicing. Man you read like your a little [deleted] off :p Whats wrong! don't you have anyone you have faith in. And if I show my support for a player I like whats wrong with that. Besides Man you clicked the mouse.

BJ Symons was always 2nd to Kingbury in practice. Now Leach is biting his nails.

Relative stang, I admire your support and devotion to Hodges, and I think he will become a good player if the staff gives him the opportunity to develop as a pass catching TE, but I'm sure he would appreciate it if you relaxed on some of these posts. I can relate to the frustration you feel, but he isn't going to get a chance to play QB. His best opportunity to flourish will be at his current position, but he is not being used properly. We have small receivers, and for whatever reason a large target like Mark gets no chances. Beg for more chances as a TE, but the QB talk will go nowhere.

I'm with McAndless - your admiration to Hodges is admirable. However....

<<Use your 5A talent, all of it.>> With that theory, SMU never would have enjoyed the talents of Eric Dickerson, Don Meredith, Doak Walker, and countless others.

<<Also in practice don't put red shirts on the QB's. Let them go live with full contact.>> Good idea. We have too many quarterbacks making plays. Why not get a few of them hurt so we can clear some room on the bench?

<<Fear is the best motivator Make The rest of this season a competition period instead of learning period.>> Decent idea.

<<Why do most of you all think Practice makes perfect. Yea its ture that players need to get good practices in but come man we need Play Makers.>> Gee, because coaches like Bowden, Paterno, Osbourne, Shembechler, Fry, Holtz, Spurrier, Wilkinson, etc., have said that those who don't perform in practice have little to no shot of performing in games. Last I checked, those guys had records that indicate they know a hell of a lot about coaching.

<<Most of these players have been playing football all of they're lives. They can get ready in a weeks time.>> What a relief! By all means, cancel spring ball and 2-a-days, and tell the guys not to worry about running and working out all summer. No need for that extra work.

<<I would rather see a big TD run on a busted play at this point then more of this stuff SMU has been practicing.>> There you go. Get on the phone to Coach Edmondson and tell him to draw up some plays that the players can mess up, because the busted play is the best option.
