Question: Well, uh, you made the decision with 4 weeks left in the regular season. What has that done as far as the coach search goes to get you a jumpstart on the search for a new coach.
Orsini: You know, Bill, we’re right on course as we hoped we would be. Uh, what it allowed us to do was get in deep with some of our top candidates early, way before anyone else could, and we’re still on track to, along that plan.
Question: Well, what are you looking at now from a, from a timetable standpoint, because now we’re seeing a lot of openings across the country, a lot of decisions being made on coaches right now. What do you think, uh, best laid plans right now as far, uh, as a timeframe is concerned?
Orsini: Well I always thought, uh, the end of the regular season is a key time for us to, uh, to see what the market’s doing and then make a move, and so I think we’re on that path, however we’re going to take our time to find the right person. We’re in this for the long run because whoever this next coach is, we hope it’s the one that’ll get us to the next level and keep us at the next level.
Question: You’ve talked a little about this football program and where it is right now. We’ve seen in the first half of this game, and the games that we’ve televised this season, there is some exciting young players on this team. There is some real hope for this football program.
Orsini: You know, and that’s been noticed around the whole, uh, coaching ranks all around the nation and I’m really pleased with the interest that has been shown in the coaching ranks on a national basis in SMU football.
If that doesn't enlighten all of you then you are truly delusional. As I said before - he's got BUBKISS! Better hope a large enough scrap falls from the table.

The only thing delusional is if you base your thesis on a halftime interview like that.
if we are waiting till the end of the season to see where the market is then that is a big red warning sign that we didn't get some of the WOW names w/o gigs like Bowden, Mason, et al. or they are slow-playing SMU.

i didnt hear anything that made me optimistic in that interview. If he had somebody, he would have sounded alot more confident than that. Once you start talking about the "market", i think you are wide open.
Steve is keeping his own counsel and SMU in not going to compete with Michigan, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Baylor, A&M, maybe LSU, and any other BCS $chool.
Orsini needs to find the right guy, who views SMU and Dallas as a destination and has a plan (and recruiting skills) to make it happen fast.
The right choice will make sense in hindsight. Our demands mean little right now. With no information other than S.O. is making the decision, I feel confident. We will appeal to the right candidate.

you relax. what really makes you think the right candidate even exists??
To me, he looked like he was afraid he might give something away. It looked like he didn't want to be asked about anyone specific. Just hurry up and get this over.
Call me delusional, but I still think he has his coach.
