BARTEL IS GONEModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: BARTEL IS GONESurely Bennett has a rule against players playing intramurals?
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: BARTEL IS GONEI seriously doubt they were actually playing in an intramural game.
There used to be an intramurals rule against student-athletes playing intramurals in the sport they played for the university. My fraternity had the issue come up during the soccer season when one of our members was on the soccer team the year before (but that was 8 or 9 years ago). [ 10-20-2003, 11:22 AM: Message edited by: Dooby ] At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEI am almost positive that their is a rule that varsity athletes can't play that same sport in intramurals (ex. bball team can't just sign up and annihilate everyone in bball). So I wonder why were they playing IM football? Maybe they were just out there on the field goofing around throwing the ball and something happened.

Re: BARTEL IS GONEIs Bartel a PIKE? God I hope Bartel wasn't playing for PIKE. I remember those meatheads reliving their high school hero days on the intramural fields. They would always play a little too rough for the intramural level and sure enough there would some sort of fracas going on with those guys and the other team. Those guys are like "softball guy" and "pickup basketball guy" They'll kill you out on the field because some coach in high school supposedly screwed them out of playing college or pro ball so you're going to be the object of their frustation.
Re: BARTEL IS GONENo one quit the team. Any removal from the team was soley Bennett's idea. From what I understand they were out at the intramural fields and the ref made a call that Richard didnt agree with so he told him that and the ref popped off with something he shouldnt have said. Richard later sought an apology and got it, then they were asked to leave and they were leaving, but apparently not quickly enough for the IM guy, who for some reason thought Richard was threatening the ref, which did not happen, and afterwards the police were called, though there was no reason for it. As it is, Bennett was initially gonna kick them off before the game saturday and changed his mind. There was no fight, and no reason for cops to be called, as for everything else, I don't really know what is at my liberty to say, but I doubt you'll see Richard in uniform again, and again it was not he who quit, but Bennett's decision...
Re: BARTEL IS GONEOK, I looked in the police reports online. They are over at www.smu.edu and I didn't see any mention from last week of a disturbance or anything at the IM fields. There is always the chance that they just didn't list it, but they are pretty detailed as to what they report on there.

Re: BARTEL IS GONEHmm...yeah JAF that sounds like one perspective.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEJAF-
I know you support Richard, and I respect that. It sounds to me like you are even conceding that Richard might have been in the wrong here. Was he playing or just observing? If Richard was playing intramurals, I have absolutely no problem with him being removed from the team. Horribly irresponsible on his part if true. The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: BARTEL IS GONEJAF, I've supported Bartel, but what the hell was he doing involved in Intramurals? You're an athlete, you know that is beyond unacceptable. I don't know if I kick a guy off the team for it, but I can't say I would ever trust the guy enough to play him again. Its so stupid, its insane.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEYes, there is a rule against playing intramurals in your sport. But this was a practice game, not real intramurals. Which makes it even more boneheaded.
Re: BARTEL IS GONELOL. Who practices intramurals? And has refs there. Taking the intramural season a bit too seriously there, guys?

Re: BARTEL IS GONEI think it may have been a special circumstance. Bennett may have even been asked to send some players to help the refs with their "practice game." If that's the case, Bartel performed quite poorly as a representative of his coach and team.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEIt was a practice for the benefit of the refs, not the players.

Re: BARTEL IS GONEI think the practice was for the refs, apparently they were trying to teach some of the new guys the rules.

Re: BARTEL IS GONEAbsurd. I could almost see a lineman who wanted to get out and show his "skills" as an intramural qb. But a starting D-1 qb playing intramurals? Inexcusable.
