This just gets better and better. So our starting QB is fighting with refs who are there trying to learn how to referee IM football games. Good one, Bartel.

Actually, on the intramural field is exactly where he belongs, definitely not anywhere near a Division I field. Remember this is the same guy who got left at home last year for rules violation before going to Hawaii. What an idiot.

I don't know what to do other than laugh. This is the craziest thing I've heard of in a while. Really what could happen next to top this? B-Hop kicked off the Basketball team for playing goalie for an intramural soccer team.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Ok, if I understand correctly, Bartel may have made a comment to an intramural ref and maybe the police (campus cops) were called. And for this Bennett kicked him off the team? Now didn't Nebraska keep a convicted rapist on the team (at least until the bowl game was over) a few years back?

This sounds like so much nothing. So next one can assume Bennett will kick off the team the two starting corners for looking cross eyed at a meter maid?

I think we've established that he as a history of poor decision making, both off and on the field.

You are the weakest link. Goodbye Bartel.

Like I said in an earlier post, sounds like a rookie referee got his panties in a wad. Guys blow off steam and you just ignore it, or add 15 yards if needed. Usually 15 yards was enough to shut them up, 30 really did it. At that point their buddies are jumping them to shut them up.

Ponyte, unless given express permission by a coach, Richard should be benched for simply playing in an intramural game. No coach would allow that during the season. And before you question whether Bartel was watching or playing, noboby gets mad enough to argue a call if they are not playing. No one with a brain at least. No matter what, you can't have your starting qb showing that lack of decision making ability and/or composure. A linebacker is one thing, a qb? Cmon, its laughable.

Maybe Bartel was trying to coach the intramural refs as an upgrade to those the WAC has been providing us with this year.

If that's the case, who can blame him?

Sorry Hoopfan. I did not witness the incident as apparently you did. Since it has been difficult to ascertain what occurred, I assumed it was far more innocent than apparently it was.

I didn't realize he was playing in the game, got into an altercation with a ref and then was kicked off the team. I would be very interested in your eyewitness version of the event to set the story straight.

Thanks for the authoritative assessment of the situation and I stand corrected.

Judging by recent history this means that Bartel will be going to Stephen F. Austin and then on to a short career as an NFL backup.

Ponyte, I was not an eyewitness. I don't want to mislead you. The real source here is JAF, Bartels friend who goes to TCU, who said that Richard was involved in an intramural game and at least had words with a referee. I am saying that if Bartel was there (confirmed) and had an altercation of some kind with a ref (confirmed), its impossible for me to believe he wasn't playing in the game (uncomfirmed). If he was playing without permission of the coaching staff, that is inexcusable especially for a starting qb.

From what I understand they were out at the intramural fields and the ref made a call that Richard didnt agree with so he told him that and the ref popped off with something he shouldnt have said. Richard later sought an apology and got it, then they were asked to leave and they were leaving, but apparently not quickly enough for the IM guy, who for some reason thought Richard was threatening the ref, which did not happen, and afterwards the police were called, though there was no reason for it. As it is, Bennett was initially gonna kick them off before the game saturday and changed his mind. There was no fight, and no reason for cops to be called, as for everything else, I don't really know what is at my liberty to say, but I doubt you'll see Richard in uniform again, and again it was not he who quit, but Bennett's decision...
I heard it the other way around - the options were laid out for Bartel, and he chose to leave. Either way, it's a tough deal for an all-around good guy. If a change of scenery is what he needs, then so be it. As I've said, he chose to come to SMU out of high school, and I wish him nothing but the best. It hasn't worked out as well as he (or we) would have liked, but in my book, he's a Mustang and will remain one. I feel bad for the guy. At this point, who said what doesn't matter. It's turning into a battle of hearsay, and all that can result is people who generally have good intentions are made to look worse than they are. What does matter is that Richard ends up being happy whereever he ends up, and that the Ponies beat Tulsa.

Not to be callus, but it is one more scholarship we have to offer.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

That's not being callous. That's finding a silver lining in a very unfortunate situation.

I don't see anything wrong in playing an intramural game. We play one every Saturday. We are the intramural team. Our opponent is the d-1 team. Good one, Nacho. Thanks.

When does Bennett get the boot? What about Copeland? Those are the real boneheads.

Glad you liked Via Real Ponyte. Nacho never lies even though people want him to. I'm the real no-spin zone, exposing lies and the lying liars who tell them.

Spaz let's bury the hatchet. I love you, man. Have fun in Tulsa. I mean that.
