GREAT NEWS

Post by Col. Nathan R. Jessep »

PB is gone.

PB walked us in a W/L circle while Copeland extended his contract.

Wouldn't it have been great to have the "LOUSY" records that Fran/Callahan, et al, recorded & were fired for such dismal performance.

Now, Phil would say that he has "forgotten more about FB that we knew"... I AGREE: his teams now hold ALL SMU records for defense allowing of scoring & TD's.

Let's begin topics that are positive... BUT NEVER LET IT BE SAID (AGAIN) THAT PHIL KNEW MORE ABOUT FB ... BECAUSE HIS RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF!
YOU WANT THE TRUTH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Piling on after his last game? Celebrating his failure?
Come on, be better than that.
Good luck, Coach Bennett.

The coach is gone....let it go.....we are moving on. The good news is most of the players returning are looking forward to a new start. Like Willis said after the game today, "It is time for a change." Thanks to the Seniors and good luck in the future guys.

despite the atrocious record and some past game performances, i dont think bennett took us in a circle. i do think he slightly improved the talent base with players like willis, sanders, hudman. with new qualified coaches, i hope they can steer this thing into a bright direction and produce results this board will be proud of

Flame, your reasons are exactly why PB took us in a circle (W/L).
He had more talent yet delivered more losses than any previous SMU coaches.

I don't think we are at 1-11 talent. The last recruiting class was not terrible. And Phil found some good finds like Emmanuel Sanders in prior years. But all in all we are back at about where we were in Cavan's last year with a slightly better freshman class in hand and most importantly a QB. We are almost in a full rebuilding mode on defense with only about 4-5 players who have the ability to play Championship Football. But coaching changes generally mean turnover especially if different schemes are run. I'm sure some will want to move on. You know early in the year I was critical of Justin because he so stubbornly refuses to change some of his negative habits despite being told over and over. But next thing I see is some of you want to play backups instead of Willis. It boggles the mind how any body could conclude that Willis should not be the starting QB here.

Unless Or(@ss)ini can pull a rabbit outta his hat, it's starting to look like
the same old sine wave theory of firing/hiring of coaches every 5/6
years:!:

@ssini picked a helluva to try to hire a new coach. Reminds me

GREATLY of the year Copeland hired Cavan :!:

i guess you're right. i just dont think our 1-11 record is truly reflective of the talent on this team as stated above in previous posts

Finally something i can agree with.

These guys are crazy. They have forgotten how bad the quarterback play really was just 4 years ago.

Absolutely. Go back to 2002 and 2003. We couldn't score. We were horrible on both offense and defense. We were at least in most of the games this year.

Agreed - our problems in general this year were not on offense - although like every fan of every school with a losing record I thought the play calling was bad on many occasions. Also - we need some new thinking in the area of red zone formations. .

We need some beef on the OL and some size and speed at LB. Those are the glaring deficiencies. QB play kept us in some games we had no business being in - it just was not enough to get some wins out of some of those last second loses.

QB along with our kicking game were highlights.

Defensive LB play and D line were tough areas for us - We need some immediate Juco help there.

They forget that we had a QB that turned out to be an accountant and another who wants to be a rock star.
