Did Rice "Band" Go Too FarThis is a second hand report from a Tulsa fan. See Below. I actually took a great deal of satisfaction in seeing those crybabbies lose today. If they had wanted to keep Graham they should have tried to match. They didn't-and I didn't mind telling them that they would rue the day they made that mistake and that it would cost them many more Millions down the drain for not trying to keep him. Rice like many private schools insists on playing NCAA Football on its own terms-fine-just don't expect to win or build a strong program.
The Rice halftime show was CLASSLESS!!!!! Completely disgusting! Comments from TU fans; 1. The Rice halftime show is classless, hoosier and down right awful. Every representative of Rice University should be embarrassed and Bubba and Sted should demand an outright apology. Disgusting!!! 2. Just finished my letter to Rice AD.... 3. I just got off the phone with someone who is at the game. The Owl band dressed in various devil attire and aimed their entire performane at TG ... essentially calling him evil. Further, the Public Address announcer referred to Graham as a douchbag. Rice University, its Administration and its fans are beneath contempt. The slimers can cuddle up with their buddies across town at Hooston and lick one another's wounds. Screw Rice and everything about it. 4. Sorry just got back to this post. Catbird had the description correct. In addition I would just add that their halftime show was about the nine levels of hell...aka Dante's Inferno...However it was Todd Graham who was going through the 9 levels of hell, there was reference to his greed, he was refered to as a "[deleted] Bag", Adultery listed and they refered to TG's mother, etc. The entire show was uncalled for and I was shocked to see it occur. You can be sure that TU will not take this sitting down. Completely uncalled for and so bush league. I am a sticks and stones kind of guy, but this was beyond that and was an attack of a level that I NEVER expect from a University. 5. just got back to the hotel and I am very proud to see this thread already started. I had to leave my seat at halftime to prevent myself from doing something I would regret. 6. This post is taking on a life of its own, which is good if: 1.) Everyone writes the Rice AD a letter and CC's the Rice president 2.) Write Bubba and TG a letter of support and ask them to go after Rice in a professional manner. 3.) Write CUSA commish a letter stating that TU was slapped on the wrist after Coach Price of UTEP made a complaint on significantly less issues than what Rice did at halftime! P.S. To me this is FAR more offensive than the Janet Jackson NFL halftime show. This was malice, pre-concieved and hate driven! http://tulsa.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=...15&style=2
oh boo hoo. "hate driven"? Grow up.
It's nice to see something out of the Rice band that isn't lame. Being edgy is the only thing that can make such halftimes worth watching. This isn't much different than their famous making fun of dead reveille on kyle field which everyone loves and applauds them for. If this is the direction they are going maybe I'll finally take the time to pay attention to their shows.
Oh know, the Rice Band called Todd Graham the devil.....So what......the Rice Band has been doing stuff like that for years. Class has never been part of their show. Most of their routines over the years have been pretty funny.....Now if the band really took a shot at Graham's mother, then they stepped over the line.
So, i f a coach commits himself to the players of a school then leaves them high and dry a few days later, he isn't a [deleted]?
Sounds pretty [deleted] to me. Those guys crying about this on the TU board are probably a bunch of [deleted] themselves. Just hazarding a guess here.
Calling him a [deleted]?-I've supported the Rice Band when they were clever-Reveille Skit and the takeoff on SMU's best dressed band in the land skit-but calling a Coach a Douchebag-that's pretty damn juvenile, not funny and I think the entire university ought to apologize for going over the line. Todd Graham was the best thing that happened to Rice in 40 years. They got their money's worth with about 10 Million dollars raised for their formerly god-awful facilities. They weren't willing to pay the market rate-you aren't going to keep your Coach. I'm glad they beat the crybabbies. Their program is simply one of the worst in the world as far as attractiveness to Coaches.
I still think he's a douchbag, Stallion. Might be convinced the PA announcer shouldn't say it, but still think he's one myself.
I mean, c'mon, what if Bennett had left after he signed an extension here with us a few years ago. Where would we be now? Wait, bad argument.
Of Course, Doherty is a [deleted] too right? Left after one year for big bucks. I'll be willing to bet Rice is going to be hit hard if reports of that halftime show are accurate. One man's [deleted] is another man's Boy Wonder
Who cares if it is "fair" or not? It's a form of shock humor. It's entertainment.
Clearly this kind of stuff is all personal preference, but your argument is the same as saying they shouldn't have done a halftime making fun of SMU after tons of NCAA violations in the 80s (which I'm sure they did) because Rice had NCAA violations too (did they?) I think if the away fans are complaining on their message board, then the MOB has done their job properly.
Maybe class isn't a part of TG's show? After promising to lead them to the promised land, he abandoned them ![]()

I read the TU message board. No offense to most people in Tulsa, but these people come off like a bunch of idiots. And I mean that in a nice way, in that I don't want to be dragged into either side of what happened.
Plus, they keep bring up the potential of libel lawsuits. Would the appropriate legal term be slander? Just trying to think back to one of my b-law classes 15 years ago. Example: "Truth is a defense, too bad you morons don't know what the truth is. You are all a bunch sissy pansies that have just had your sacks stuffed back between your legs where it belongs. Let me just say, what happened on that field is libel to a lot of people not just Todd Graham. You scum bags libeled the entire city of Tulsa." Not the guy I'd want leading the charge here, but who am I to talk. You know, would hate to libel somebody.......
I agree. this act was tasteless. I feel sorry for the families with small children who had to witness this.
