BARTEL IS GONEModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: BARTEL IS GONEIs there method in Bennett's "madness"? When he makes the postgame comment that he's starting Phillips next week and giving him 5 games to get ready for next year, and he's going to sign a JC QB...had he already made up his mind that Bartel and/or Wallis was done here at SMU?
I've witnessed only 2 games and can clearly see what those closer to the program are saying about the coaching and our schemes. I agree we either need a new OC or they need to open up the playbook. I guess we can expect KK off right tackle about 20 times Saturday, and Phillips rolling left otherwise. Actually that might work out a whole lot better than Bartel throwing it up for grabs along the sideline, which is all I've seen in the passing game this year. I was really disappointed to see UTEP put 10 in the box on that crucial 3rd and 4 as we were driving for what would have been a game winning FG, only to see us run the exact play everyone knew was coming. Do our coaches and QB's not understand the concept of changing the play at the line of scrimmage when it's obvious what you have called is not going to succeed? As I waited for Bartel to audible into a quick slant that may well have produced a game winning TD against that defense, I knew deep down what was coming. I'm trying to remind myself that neither Bartel or Wallis got much attention as I-A QB prospects, so if this is all about freeing up a scholarship because Bennett does think he can bring in a JC kid who can play right away and produce, I'm willing to keep an open mind. I guess I will judge the "state of the program" by how the team responds at Tulsa. Tulsa has shown considerable improvement following their coaching change. I'd like to think we have enough talent to at least compete. If we lose at Tulsa by 30-40 pts, then I have serious questions about this program and whether this coaching staff has lost control of this team.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEThey haven't opened up the passing game because the QBs are not capable of comprehending the playbook efficiently enough. Also, the WRs are tiny little soldiers out there...getting chucked at the line allowing for even more diminished chances of success.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEI can't wait until Sunday. I am going to be talking some trash then. Tulsa favored by 17. You have been given fair warning.
Run Bennett run. Yipee. Shoot low Boys. They're riding shetland ponies.
Re: BARTEL IS GONETalking trash then?? You've been talking non-stop all freaking day...

Re: BARTEL IS GONENacho, didn't you say you were leaving? Or are you being a hypocrite like the pundits whose tag lines you stole earlier in the day.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEPersonally, I can't wait to see Phillips throw Saturday. I heard that at his media lunch, Bennett said Phillips has an even stronger arm than Bartel.
Re: BARTEL IS GONETulsa recruits JUCOS, and recruits them well. 8 alone this year? If Bennett could tap into the JUCO pool, you better believe we'd have a record better than Tulsa.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEO.K. I've read all the posts on this after being away from the computer all day. I thought, at first, that I was dreaming. But apparently not.
At the Boise State game I witnessed something that happened between Bartel and Wallis on the sidelines that may shed some light on this and, maybe not. It was after Wallis' first series of downs and as he came off the field, Bartel was near the water coolers. Bartel had a 'look' in his eyes and said something to Wallis that may or may not have been in jest. Wallis said something back and, from my vantage point on the 14th row at the 50 yd. line, it didn't look like they were having a 'friendly' conversation. Bartel went to the other end of the sideline and Wallis went to the other. I just dunno what to think anymore. As for one poster's comment that Bartel or Wallis might go to a Div.1-AA school (i.e. Sam Houston State or Stephen F. Austin), stranger things have happened. <small>[ 10-20-2003, 03:42 PM: Message edited by: MrMustang1965 ]</small>
Re: BARTEL IS GONEit seems like those who are sharing a bit of the truth are getting jumped all over.
Re: BARTEL IS GONETulsa has 8 JUCOs really-you beat me to the punch err roster but it seems to be working out for them pretty well.

Re: BARTEL IS GONEI said I was leaving after football season. I wouldn't miss this for anything. It's just now geting really good.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEI don't know how you expect us to bury the hatchet when you keep provocking people on this board.
WHERE'S MY KETCHUP?!?!?!
Re: BARTEL IS GONEWho freakin cares if they're good guys. I've known plenty of good SMU players. The team sucks. Get rid of them all and start cheating like everyone else. At least we might be better at it this time.. --Bodo
Re: BARTEL IS GONEI care. I want the Ponies to win, but I want them to do it the right way - build with HS kids, not patchwork recruiting with JUCOs. And I want our players to be guys who I'm proud to see represent my alma mater.
Re: BARTEL IS GONEPatchwork recruiting? *GAG* Yeah, shutup.
