According to the story, these were preliminary talks and Broyles was quoted last week saying it's incoming AD Jeff Long's call.
That said, I thought after the LSU game, he would return.

The big question is what does Long want. Broyles had said he would stay out of it ( ha ha) and White does not have any football savvy. Long does not start work until 1/1/08. Nutt will not quit because he would lose approximately $2,000,000 in buy out money, but he would still get something in the $2-$2.5 million range even if he did quit. $4.5 total if he is fired.

The story said Nutt and Long would talk later this week. I wonder if they will go through the drama of the mock contract extension talks that didn't pan out and result in a buyout. I would think that's where Jimmy Sexton gets into this.

Half of the State loves him and half hates him. Half talk about the affair, the Sprindale connection, Gus Malzahn and Mustain leaving, and the other half think he can do no wrong. The school wants to keep him but they can not if it means loss of ticket sales and division among the fans. A lot of people are dropping their large donations to just the amount needed to get tickets and that is causing concern in the administration. If and when they start dropping their donations and their tickets then there could be real problems, but they are not there yet. I think that Butch Davis committing to NC has strengthened the possiblity of Nutt staying. There was a big push from the big donors and Trustees for him. I do not think there is another candidate that could convince them to ax Nutt. So it just becomes a financial matter based on ticket sales and donations. LSU win has let Nutt take the lead role in the talks. He is insisitng on an extension beyond his 2012 contract.

how do they keep him? he had a mediocre year.... and considering the fact that he had the BEST PLAYER IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL on his team, his record doesn't justify keeping him. What is his pitch to the new AD? We will be better next year without McFadden?

With a little fortune on 3 plays this year they are 11-1. That is pretty good in the SEC. Personally, if I am him I try to make them fire me and take the 4.5 million and run. He loses McFadden, Jones, Hillis and Monk. There are some able bodies behind them but not really anything close. Next year will be rough for whomever is the coach at Arkansas. I am just saying that they have already given him an extension last year through 2012 and he is demanding a new one this year. His ego speaks loudly.
And by the way, I would be very happy with his ego at SMU. He is a good recruiter and could do very well in Dallas. Just do not think he would "lower" himself to our level.

I had no idea he still had that much support. I have watched several Hogs games this year and I have to say they are exciting to watch. The Hogg Wild formation and all of that stuff is what makes college football great. I actually hope that the Cowboys can draft Felix Jones now that it looks like that first round pick from Cleveland will be late first round.

with a little fortune we would have 6 wins... "that's why you play the game..." " almost only counts in grenades and horseshoes.." every coach in the country has that excuse. he might recruit well, but recruiting doesn't equal championships (see mack brown). he should be gone for his little affair and email scandal, losing doesn't help

Mack Brown has one -- the same amount Big game Bob Stoops has.
